They say home is where the heart is…but that’s not where mine lives!
“ Things around you are constantly going to change. Nothing is permanent. The only permanent thing we have is ourselves, so make sure you love and accept yourself ”

And you’ll save all your dirtiest jokes for me….
stick with me, i’m your queen like a tenessee stella mccartney ✨
her voice gets me every single time in “I thought you were leading me on, I packed my bags left Cornelia street before you even knew I was gone, but then you called showed your hand turned around before I hit the tunnel, sat on the roof you and I” it goes from defensive and protective of herself to emotional about her lover calling then nostalgic about the memory of sitting on the roof together the absolute range of it all
“i love you, ain’t that the worst thing you ever heard?!” he looks up grinning like a devil
i can’t get over how much i love this? like? she admits she loves him after the whole summer of being terrified of it and terrified of losing him because of it.. she finally explodes after holding it in... and he just.. smiles at her. smugly. like. “you love me? am i supposed to be mad?” GOD that’s such a moment! such a moment!!!! i’m obsessed
afterglow is so mature and so important because it takes a lot to step up and take the blame so you can make up with someone you care about and the fact that taylor put it in a song shows how much she has matured and wow i will never shut up about it okay?
1989 ➳ Lover
(2/2) “In honor of fever dreams, bad bad boys, confessions of love on a drunken night out, Christmas lights still hanging in January, guitar string scars on my hands, false gods and blind faith, memories of jumping into an icy outdoor pool, creaks in floorboards and untraviolet morning light, finally finding a friend, and opening the curtaind to see the clearest, brightest daylight after the darkest night… We are what we love. This is Lover“.
Coraline is coming out from under the covers to tell you that Lover is out and you should go get it/stream it ✨🏹
Religious Imagery Invoked in Lover
First religious allusion comes with track two: Cruel Summer.
- “Devils roll the dice, angels roll their eyes”
- “Breakable heaven”
- “Snuck in through the garden gate … just to seal my fate”
- “He looks up grinning like a devil”
A track about temptation. The summer fling isn’t something that an ‘angel’ would take a chance on. In the climax of the song the narrator “seals [her] fate” by “[sneaking] in through the garden gate” — she’s doing something that she shouldn’t be doing, and using that symbol of a garden in a song with references to heaven, devils, angels, etc. I don’t think it is a leap to recall Garden of Eden and Original Sin temptation stories. The love interest is equated to a “devil”. By the end of the track listeners have no idea if the narrator was tricked by a devil/snake in the garden to behave a way she shouldn’t have — to pursue this summer fling.
