"See I can’t even blame you for that at all. Let’s get it over with then. Got to get you to that lovely whiskey."

They nodded. Time passed far quicker than anticipated and soon enough the final signature was all that was needed. Amil lifted their head after scribbling their official signature and on impulse, said dryly, "Would you care to share a bottle with me? Not of any fondness for you, you understand. Safety in numbers and such."

Steve really hadn’t had any interest in going to Stark’s Expo to begin with, much like he hadn’t had any interest to the science one that Bucky took him to decades ago. He went to the expo for the same reasons that he’d gone to the ones Bucky had taken him to, because someone had nicely invited him and Steve wasn’t one to turn down a polite offer. Though, no one had informed Steve that Stark himself had been working genetically enhanced alcoholic beverages just to see if he could get a super soldier tipsy and well, when Steve had even started to find out, he was already well past tipsy and heading into more of a drunk kind of territory. 

And he was definitely drunk when he took a taxi home and all but crashed through his door to his apartment, warm in all the right places, more cheerful than he’s been in actual decades. “You d-don’ have to stay y’know, I’m f-fine.” He stammers to whomever decided to take on the duty of babysitting a drunk super soldier for the night. 

  One raised eyebrow and surely even Amil wasn't that unobservant, the scent of alcohol odd and unfamiliar as it made its way up her nose and down her throat, struggling not to cough. She managed it, expression blank as she answered simply, "Sir, I believe it best I stay. You do not seem capable of navigating a fight at the moment."

  As calm as she was, it was a tiny bit funny to the barely-new recruit to see the man so revered by all to be piss drunk. Cheerful as a hamster with a carrot and clumsy beyond belief. She shifted the gun over her shoulder to be comfortable, staying in a military-trained position at her post beside his door.

"Tis a pity that you’re so direct about it. I suppose we should get it done with. Then I can leave..since you obviously want that so very much.”

"Oh, believe me merchant. It isn't you. It's the warming whiskey waiting for me after this."

"Haha no such luck. That’s probably for the best though. A total waste of material to have to keep changing."

"Of course. Can we get on with your paperwork then? Or should I skip to the part where we both leave of our own accord and hopefully do not see one another for a few years?"

A small but chuckle came out of the man when they asked.

Andrei handed over the bottle, letting himself soak up the beauty of it all— This was a wonderful escape from the nightmares. The constant ones he saw over and over again. The ones of his sister's parents being killed. The ones of him hearing her miserable, grief stricken screams over the loss of the man she loved.

He could only drown himself in the comfort liquor, drugs, sex— Anything to get his mind off of the pain and misery.

"In a way, yeah."

He ran a hand through his short brown locks, gently tugging on them as he chuckled.

"Everyone was alive then."

  She blinked slowly, trying not to flinch at his words. Luckily, or unluckily, depending on the person she supposed, she was able to control the frequent trembling fits. She wasn't weak, she wasn't but one never forgets a scream like that.

  Neither could he.

  So they found solace in drink and star-watching, dreaming up another earth where everything swam in tears or liquor tainted drink and none died except a few. 

  "True."

  She drummed her fingers on the grass, remembering how amazed she had been that first time after so long, to see it go on and on without trying to stop.

  She didn't want to try to stop either, screaming, drowning, but one must. Life wasn't death.

  "At least there's more alcohol now."

  A vague attempt at humour that didn't make her laugh.

600!? How is that even possible! I love you all immensely and thank each and everyone of you for sticking around through all my craziness and not being here and all that. You’re all wonderful and I’m going to put some names here of people I think are super duper awesome, mkay?
