“With Reading, especially if you’re playing last, you can’t be too subtle,” Matt confides. “We’re very good at not being subtle. That’s been our secret, to lay it on thick. Play all the heavy riffs and keep people pumped all the way through, that’s the key. If you’re on in the daytime you can play something dreamy and lovey but we tend to go pretty darkside and heavy and that seems to be what works.” - Walk on stage with Muse at Reading & Leeds

“Which Muse songs do you love playing most?”
“It’s not really about the songs; it’s about the crowd reactions. I love the moments when I know I’m going to feel electricity from the crowd—moments like the riff at the end of “Knights,” because it just goes off. No matter where we play, we know that the crowd will go nuts at that point, and it’s amazing to watch from the stage. Moments like those are the ones I remember, and it’s because of the crowd, not us.” - Chris Wolstenholme

There’s an unspoken bond of appreciation that allows the band to cut back on the stadium fripperies — besides their trademark moon balloons, streamers and gargantuan space riffs, nothing comes floating over the crowd tonight — and indulge the playful showmanship of a band that has grown confident and comfortable with their headliner status.
