Archive Releases: Luna Wants a Longbottom
This Friday, the Wizrocklopedia presents a rerelease of a classic British wizard rock album by Luna Wants a Longbottom, ‘You’re Just as Sane as We Are!’ If you haven’t heard it yet, you’re missing out! It features a wonderful mix of musical styles and feelings and some great songwriting. Check it out–and some additional history about the band!–below!
?“You’re Just as Sane as We Are!” by Luna Wants a Longbottom
Bristol-based Michaela Butler and Ruby Nicholson-Pallett formed Luna Wants A Longbottom around 2007 as a creative outlet for their borderline unhealthy obsession with the HP universe. The music began as a way to make each other laugh and entertain their friends. As their repertoire grew they entered various local ‘battle of the band’ competitions wearing full Hogwarts robes and hats, much to the bemusement of the wider audience (surprisingly, they never won). This attracted some attention and LWALB embarked on their first (and only) tour: playing local primary schools for children during Book Week.
Their peak came in July 2008 when they headlined ‘Accio Wrock’ at the Carling Academy in Oxford. Wizard Wrock bands from all over the country came together to perform for an international audience. That day LWALB sold a dizzying number of records – ten! – even more astonishing considering no album had yet been recorded. The optimistic investment of those ten hopefuls became the reason this album got made: so, thanks to them, you now have the pleasure of listening to LWALB’s debut album: ‘You’re Just as Sane As We Are!’
Enjoy the songs & wrock on!
