The Social Security Act became law on 14 August 1935.
Standing to the left of FDR in the photo (in gray suit) is Rep. Robert Doughton (D-NC), chairman of the House Ways and Means Committee and the official sponsor of the legislation in the House; Sen. Robert Wagner (D-NY), who introduced the bill into the Senate; Frances Perkins (Secretary of Labor) who had been chair of Roosevelt’s Committee on Economic Security, which conceived of Social Security; (in white suit with cigar) Sen. Byron “Pat” Harrison (D-MS) who is credited with getting the Act through the Senate Finance Committee; and Rep. David Lewis (D-MD), a former coal miner and self-educated lawyer, who introduced the Social Security bill into the House on January 17, 1935 (although Doughton persuaded the House clerk to give him credit, which was called the Wagner-Doughton bill).

As history professor, Heather Cox Richardson (aka TDPR or the Dread Pirate Richardson) pointed out, it’s likely that someone calculated the risks and decided that whatever consequence there would be for deleting materials that are required by law to keep us most likely less of a consequence than whatever those texts contain.
Im also curious. How is it possible that they are completely gone? Someone has to know. Has to have them. Has to have a copy.
