Candice Patton as Iris West helped play a massive part in Kiersey and Zendaya being allowed to portray superhero love interests, and opened doors that would have been closed to them three years ago, when they wouldn’t have even been considered an OPTION.

Candice Patton as Iris West helped show execs that a WOC as a romantic lead is a smart decision. From their standpoint, it’s likely financial, but little black girls are going to be allowed to see themselves as the girl the hero loves, wants to be with, and get to see themselves being Important to the story.

One day, saltyass haters will realize that’s why Candice Patton as Iris West is needed, because she’s making a *difference* and one simple casting decision is shaking 50+ years of history for the better.

HELP LOUISIANA RECOVER

(I know I don’t have a ton of followers but I hope this can still reach a good amount of people!)

at this point most of us know about the flooding in Louisiana. disaster declaration has spread throughout the southern part of the state, homes are severely damaged, businesses are without power and are running low on food, etc. people are still being rescued and today the death toll rose to 11. a resident from the area told me this flood was “like Katrina, without the warning”

the communities affected are in need of our help to move towards recovery so if you can donate, check out the gofundme page linked below (and the rest of the slfda site). all proceeds go through United Christian Faith Ministries, certified charity organization in Baton Rouge, LA

okay so my stepmom’s abusive tendencies have escalated to a point where i’m not anxious around her, but genuinely terrified of her. she destroyed my brothers’ bedroom earlier today and she just got done beating the shit out of my youngest brother until he was sobbing. and she’s started to tell him not to tell me what she says to him so she fucking knows that i’m on to her. she might be thinking of making me her next victim, i don’t know. i’m scared for my life over here. please donate to my paypal so i can move back to my hometown i can’t handle anymore traumas. donate here: paypal.me/DLViolet . thank you so much.

So my stepmom threatened me with violence today and almost threw me out on the street someone please help me get out I don’t know how long I can survive here

Okay I’ve decided that I need to leave a lot sooner than I planned so if literally anyone could just reblog or donate a dollar I’d be so thankful. I’m really scared and I don’t know what to do. I know for a fact that I’m not safe in my house. Please donate to: paypal.me/DLViolet if you can. Thank you so much. batman is always meddling in others’ business according to comic canon so it makes sense he’ll keep making appearances in most DCEU films even if he’s not supposed to be there. catch him appearing in Wonder Woman during the first world war. he didn’t exist back then. will that stop him? no

For those of you who have been swearing up and down that you’re moving to Canada if Donald Trump becomes the next U.S. President—wait, not so fast.
A 37-year-old Somali-Canadian man with a “mental capacity issue” has been taken to the hospital in critical condition Sunday following an attempted arrest, Ottawa Citizen reports.
Ontario’s Special Investigation Unit, a civilian oversight body that probes a death, serious injury or an allegation of sexual assault involving police, is investigating as Abdirahman Abdi remains in critical condition Monday.
Sunday morning, police were called after reports of groping. When the two police officers confronted Abdi, it’s alleged he led them on a foot chase and “at some point during the confrontation, [he] suffered medical distress” and was taken to The Ottawa Hospital’s Civic Campus. However, witnesses say Abdi was pepper-sprayed and brutally beaten with a baton by multiple officers.
“I heard the screaming, and then I come out and I see my brother lying down, police hitting so badly. Like, I’ve never seen something like that in my life,”Abdirizaq Abdi, the assaulted man’s brother, says, according to CBC News.
Sound familiar? It’s very similar to the instance of police brutality in France that sparked several days of riots north of Paris last week—police claimed Adama Traore, a 24-year-old black Muslim man, suddenly died from “a serious infection” while they arrested him.
The tragic situation involving Abdi comes as Black Lives Matter gained traction in Canada too, especially in light of outrage over recent police killings in the U.S. of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile as well as last week’s shooting of Charles Kinsey, who was providing assistance to an autistic man.
For example, Black Lives Matter Toronto called out anti-black racism in the LGBTQ community. BLMTO staged a sit-in during Toronto’s Pride Parade on July 3, bringing it to standstill. The organizers refused to cease until the Pride Toronto representatives agreed to sign a letter of demands, which included the the banning of police floats from future parades.
“The presence of police might make some of y’all safe,” Rodney Diverlus, BLMTO co-founder who identifies as queer, says through a megaphone. “But it makes a whole lot of people in our community unsafe. And if you’re down for an inclusive Pride, you are down for a police-free Pride.”
The executive director of Pride Toronto Mathieu Chantelois eventually signed off on BLMTO’s demands, so the parade could resume, but the onslaught of racist vitriol and death threats that the chapter received following their act of civil disobedience is appalling, and reinforces the necessity of the black lives matter rallying cry.
These events suggest Canada is not a sanctuary from police brutality or anti-blackness, as some may like to believe. They are part and parcel of white supremacy, a global system that we live in.
If you can stomach another video illustrating police brutality, see below.

Please help a trans-woman in a tight spot

Hi. Maddie here. This is something I really hate to do but I need a bit of help.

For a while I’ve been suffering with very bad depression. This year, it has gotten progressively worse. I do have a part time job which I’m barely clinging on to but it’s difficult and I am falling behind on things like my house bills, child support, car costs and I have no cash to buy anything until I next get paid on the 27th.

I am doing all I can to get better. I am seeing a counsellor, I’m in alcohol recovery and hopefully will be seen by an NHS psychiatrist.

I know a lot of people have things bad right now but even if you are able to share this, I would be hugely grateful.

One thing to soften the blow: the truly baroque insults that Scots have been flinging towards Trump in response to his ill-advised “Scotland took its country back” tweet.  Among the things they have called him: “witless fucking cocksplat” “incompressible jizztrumpet” “ignorant fuckmuppet” “buttplug face” “weapons-grade plum” “toupéd fucktrumpet” “Pumkinfart” “uncooked pastry” “clueless orangutan” “fuckstick helmethair” “tiny-fingered, Cheeto-faced, ferret-wearing shitgibbon” posted by EmpressCallipygos at 11:28 AM  on June 24 [82 favorites +] [!]
