This is for all the unsung fic writers; the ones who don’t make the must-read lists, the ones who don’t get recced, the ones who don’t get hundreds of kudos, the rarepair writers out on the peripheries of fandom, the ones who toil away quietly for the handful of people who read and love them. You matter - you’re a writer too, and don’t you ever forget it. :)
big enjoyer of shitty media that i would never recommend to people ever in my life

FIRMLY believe that all good pieces of media should have at least one, if not most, of the following:
a) ghosts b) houses c) fucked-up families d) an abundance of love e) narratives about storytelling f) gay people
one thing i never get tired of in songs is when they include some sounds from the recording booth like a laugh at the end, a ‘was that good?’ or like, the sounds of the guitar being put down, a chair creaking. it’s nice how music can be used as an escape but also something that ties you right back down to earth. it will affect you so deeply & then ur like wow… you just played that. it’s grounding & magical & just one of my fave things ever!
Drinking Song For The Socially Anxious from Ruin by The Amazing Devil begins with some guitar noodling and what sounds like improvised singing along or vocal warming up and mood setting
Then a pause…
Then “What’s my note?” plunk
Then a touching and personally devastatingly relatable song about two nervous nerds finding solace in seeing something of themselves in one another at a party where everyone else seems to know how to Human on a different social level, but for the first time they’re not alone and maybe it’s all right after all, through an interplay of countermelodies where two monologues bounce around one another, half dancing with one another while half the time almost oblivious of one another
… Then “Totally messed it up again like three times. For fuck’s sake!” and just laughing together about the take.
Absolutely no notes.
As I read the first post, I was already hearing that “For fuuuuck’s sake!” in my head, it’s just such a great moment at the end of a wonderful song, it made me so happy that you had already written about it.
