Been thinking about them lately.

Hundreds of Jewish anti-war demonstrators have been arrested during a Passover seder that doubled as a protest in New York, as they shut down a major thoroughfare to pray for a ceasefire and urge the Senate majority leader, Chuck Schumer, to end US military aid to Israel.

The 300 or so arrests took place on Tuesday night at Grand Army Plaza, on the doorstep of Schumer’s Brooklyn residence, where thousands of mostly Jewish New Yorkers gathered for the seder, a ritual that marked the second night of the holiday celebrated as a festival of freedom by Jews worldwide.

The seder came just before the US Senate resoundingly passed a military package that includes $26bn for Israel.

Today is Armenian genocide remembrance day. On april 24, 1915 started mass deportations of hundreds of Armenian intelectuals and community leaders, who were (most of the time) eventually killed. Armenian women and children were systematically r//ed and forcibly converted into islam. There were more than 2 milion Armenians in ottoman empire prior to ww1, 1,5 milion of them were viciously killed. Three millennia of Armenian civilaziation in eastern Anatolis was fully destroyed. Turkey today refuses to acknowledge genocides of christian minorities in early 20th century.

Last year in september azerbaijan allied with turkey initiated a war against Armenia. More that 5000 Armenians were murdered, thousands of Armenia families had to live their ancestrial land to not get murdered. There are hundreds of vids on internet where armenian p.o.w.s are tortured. Recently azerbaijan opened a "museum" displayind dead or dying Armenians and kids were allowed to visit it.

Gaza's municipality is trying to raise money to fix and restore Gaza's water system. Please support them by boosting and/or donating

This is an actual way you can help. Quite a lot of Gaza’s water infrastructure was looted by Hamas to make rockets (I guess bombs are more important than basic human needs), so the system is in really bad shape to say the absolute least—that’s actually a major reason Gaza is reliant on Israel for water. Their own government literally said “screw you, we want to kill people.”

Helping to restore running water to Gaza won’t just make an immediate impact on the lives of Gazans (although it will certainly do that). It will help provide a level of security such that they can start more openly fighting back against Hamas in order to hold elections that will provide them long-term stability and prosperity, and maybe FINALLY get real and true peace talks with Israel on the table.

I do want to make note, this refers only to the city we call Gaza City in the West. (There’s a Gaza, Gaza just like there’s a New York, New York.) But I can’t find anything suggesting this is some kind of “tell them it’s for water, they’ll believe that” from Hamas (aka “tell them it’s for water and we’ll use it for whatever we want, fuck the Gazans”), so unless someone else finds such a thing, I’m going to say go for it. Water is a human right.

Chag Pesach sameach to every Jewish person. No matter your observance practices, whether you’re at a Seder with family, working or anything else. Every Jewish person deserves to feel safe, no matter their politics or visibility. Because right now? It’s beyond left/right. It’s simply being Jewish. I can’t get over how the students at Columbia screamed “Go back to Poland” to American Jews. Not even Israelis (though that wouldn’t be okay either). American fucking Jews.

Way to tell me that you don’t want me in your country and think my family and I would be better off dead. You’re such an activist, gleefully screaming for the ethnic cleansing of your country’s own populations.

So my family of American Jews are actually from Poland (although the town my mother's family is from is now in Ukraine due to Soviet border-fuckery). But my father's family is from a city called Lodz. We were bakers there. The building we owned is still there at Targowa 67. You can see it on Google Maps. The city now owns it.

Back in the 1990s, we made inquiries about reclaiming it...

And the city told us that if we tried, "We would not be able to guarantee your safety when you are physically present."

Whether that's a warning or a subtle threat is up for debate, but hey, we got the message either way that Jews Are Not Welcome In Poland.
