can you imagine king alistair being in a meeting with his advisors and the whole court and his little child is just running around throwing things and playing with wooden swords and occasionally getting up on Alistair’s lap and flipping through important documents and drawing pictures on them and the nobles are horror-stricken, but alistair just keeps talking about the matters they need to attend to while his offspring scales his shoulders

I like to imagine him asking, “Any questions?” at an important meeting and the kid responds with baby babble and he listens intently and nods, with his chin resting on his fist and saying something like, “Ah, yes, a valid point” while his advisers sit there all dumbstruck.

i don’t even know who you’re talking about but I like him already

So I decided to start posting now, rather than wait another week. I mean, the whole story is written and proofread already anyway, so it's not like I need to build a buffer for this one.

This is not in the same continuity as the previous Sonic fic I posted, just as fair warning. It's part of its own series instead.

And here's the (sole) illustration again, for those who may not have seen it over the weekend, or who want to see it again. :D

Chekov's Cat: if you see a cat in the first act, it will probably be relevant later. (example: Alien)

Shrodinger's razor: an unopened box may or may not contain the solution to the story; there's no way to know without opening it. (example: Monk)

Occam's gun: the simplest way to kill off a character is to shoot them. (example: Bambi)

i have been cracking up at this for the past 3 minutes

Chekov's Box: If there is a container introduced in the opening act, it will be opened later.

Schrodinger's Gun: Treat every gun as if it's loaded unless you've checked it yourself.

Occam's Cat: If you hear strange noises at night, it's probably a cat.

Sneak peek!

I finished my cross-post of Falling into Darkness, and thus finished sharing all the illustrations from that one. But I've got something else waiting to start posting to AO3, and it does, in fact, have one single illustration.

Obviously done much more simply. Instead of an attempt at a somewhat comic-style coloring job, I wanted this one to just be sketchy lines and a rough watercolor job, hence the lack of shading.

Stay tuned for an announcement of when I post the first chapter!

It's the last previews for Falling Into Darkness!

Important note before I go into some details on the pictures: I will, in general, not be doing this for other fanfics I post. The main reason I did this series of illustrations was as something of a treat for finally crossposting this 10-20-year-old story to my AO3 account. I don't really plan to draw a ton of illustrations for other fics I do.

That being said, I may do occasional images that will be posted with future stories on AO3 (I have a quick one for the first chapter of the next fic I plan on posting, for one), and if I do other fanart, related to a fic or not, I still plan to post art here.

But I'm glad for all the kind comments and everyone enjoying this series of illustrations with me. :D You guys are awesome.

With that, description-stuff (including more behind-the-scenes than usual) below the cut. 'Tis long; be forewarned.

And here we are, the final chapter of Falling into Darkness. Thank you all for reading along, and I'm glad you enjoyed!

Like I said before, I won't be posting illustrations for every chapter of future works, and won't even be posting an update here for every single chapter upload (I did it this time around because of the included illustrations), but I will be posting an announcement for the first chapter of any new story I upload, and will also be sharing any art I happen to do (with or without a chapter link included).

I've got another story waiting in the wings and ready to post, so that'll be next week, or possibly the week after if I take a short break from my consistent posting schedule first.

Cheers!

"Older than 40."

At 1.3% of the total votes (as of reblogging), my math says I'm one of...two. With no one in the bracket below me, so....

Hi! I'm the old lady in the porch rocking chair, I guess, talking about how back in the day we had to play uphill both ways in the snow with no save files or something.

Posting Fic - How to prep your writing to display correctly on AO3 (via LibreOffice)

So I've seen guides online about how to convert your fanfic for AO3 after writing it in Google Docs, because a lot of people use GDocs to do their writing (which is a decent option, since it saves it in the cloud and all that). I'm not planning on repeating that here.

But I don't do my writing in GDocs, I do my writing in LibreOffice Writer, because it emulates an older version of Word (which is what I grew up on and am most used to), and because I can have more robust spellchecking than on GDocs. And when I was first considering finally posting my work to AO3, I'd heard lots of commentary about how often pasting into the rich text editor sometimes loses formatting, or what hoops people had to jump through to make sure everything looked good.

So I'm here with the actually-pretty-darn-simple method I use to post to AO3 for anyone who needs this, because I want to be helpful.

Please note: this is largely for the basic formatting one might use on AO3. I haven't tested it with fancier things (not even smallcaps yet, though I'm hoping that won't prove too difficult when I finally get around to a chapter that needs that functionality). Also, these instructions are for Windows, which is what I use.

Hey look, previews! ::jazz hands::

What's this? Monday's chapter?

Yes! And a bit of a banger if you ask me, but that would be because it's the peak of the story's action. There's two chapters to go after this, but this is where most of the plot comes to a head.

Enjoy!
