hi! if you follow me on my main (@porowskis), you may have noticed that my blog has seemingly disappeared. that’s because tumblr suspended access to my account for — get this! — saving too many urls! that’s right, i’m being penalized for engaging in a practice so common it’s essentially part of tumblr’s social fabric. i was told my “hoarding” was a violation of their guidelines, because “every tumblr user should have equal access to urls” (tell that to the enjolras url that’s been inactive since before 2012). in order to regain access to my account, i was forced to delete every one of my inactive or unused urls, which i did, and informed them of such, but with this caveat:
they then replied with this (note them not acknowledging a single one of my relevant qualms):
what this patronizingly italicized “all” means is that they are going to hold my account hostage until i delete EVERY one of my blogs other than my primary account. every sideblog, regardless of how recent my activity is or the legitimate following amassed, must be terminated in order to... sit in the void until someone decides they want my incredibly niche and fandom-specific urls, which no one has expressed interest in in the five to seven years i’ve had them? we all know how patently absurd this is, considering every person i know has either a sideblog or at least one saved url, so i raised this distinction with them:
as well as how impractically inane it is to accuse me of expoliting a feature they ENCOURAGE you to use:
i haven’t heard back from them yet, but the prospects don’t look terribly promising. friends of mine who have had this happen have said it’s taken them at least a month to regain access and that was only after they forcibly deleted their other blogs. i plan to fight this horseshit tooth and nail, but since i can’t post anything to my primary blog, i wanted to apprise my mutual followers of this blog and my main so they can a) protect themselves and b) have documentation of this should they terminate my account in retaliation (i don’t think they would, but i don’t know why i would expect them to develop a conscience now). please consider reblogging this to spread the word about tumblr’s latest act of fucking over their loyal users!
