Guys!!! I think we are all focusing on the wrong thing here!
The spoilers are revealing a very CLEAR and a very SIGNIFICANT CARYL moment - one that shows off not just their connection in terms of dynamic but also the comfort level they share together and the freedom that exists in their relationship regardless of what the situation actually ends up being.
CARYL has always been about moments and whether they are angsty, sweet, funny or something in between all that; the point is that the particular scene and the specific interaction was chosen to involve them for a reason.
Think about it like this - a scene that tackles a difficult part of the acclimatization to their new environment for both Carol and Daryl will be addressed through an exchange between the two of them, specifically because the struggle or resolution of the issue at hand will become a part of their journey and their shared bond.
Clearly the fact that Daryl is moping around on the porch, refusing to embrace the chance to be “clean” and essentially acting unsure, scared and completely uncomfortable with this new “civilized” way of living; shows that the adjustment for him in Alexandria will not be a smooth one.
Of course it’s gonna be Carol that approaches him when he is like that - she is the one he’s closest to and one that is most likely going to care the most about trying to get Daryl to fit in here. Nobody else would have the guts to approach an angry, feral and moody Daryl Dixon and threaten him with the water hose.
It’s Carol because Carol is going to a play a major role in the upcoming stage of Daryl’s transformation and this scene actually shows just how close and intuitive they are when it comes to one another.
Daryl too knows Carol best and he obviously has no qualms about telling her that the woman he thinks her clothes are trying to emulate is not who she is. To him Carol as a “housewife” is ridiculous (something we all agree on) because he has seen her true value and witnessed first-hand what she is truly capable of.
The “housewife” role is not doing her justice and just as she told him in Season 2 that he was more than a “henchmen”, this is Daryl’s reciprocation of that CARYL moment.
Daryl is not one to make fun of people and Carol knows that very well. The fact that he’s voicing his opinion isn’t about him rejecting Carol but his way of rejecting the notion that someone thought that Carol feeding the elderly is ALL she could be.
Since we already know both Carol and Daryl’s diligence and caution when it comes to new people and new places, the transition is not going to be an easy one AND while some may grow complacent to the new “safe”, these two obviously will not.
This scene shows two people, who know each other best, both having difficulty adjusting to the unknown and both expressing “protectiveness” in their own way.
Carol wants him to be clean and wants him to try and give this kind life a chance.
Daryl on the other hand looks at this different yet familiar Carol and tells her she is more than what these people think she is.
Whether or not this ends up being levity or angst, the audience will be left with yet another moment that showcases just how close Carol and Daryl are.
AND that their transition to whatever is “next” ties them together once again!
