Final Thoughts of 2017

Hey hey hey. I know I haven't been around these Tumblr streets in a while so I figure I’d drop in for a quick visit. Despite the shitshow that’s been occurring in the White House, this year has been interesting. I’ve met a lot of new people this year and many of these folks came into my life just at the right time so I’m grateful to them for allowing me to be just me when I am around.

On the job front, my temp job was extended until March 2018. I was subsequently promoted to a Task Advisor in August so I haven’t been taking as many calls though I have been working on training materials and supervising new help desk agents. This job may (or may not) end earlier for me only because I applied for a Licensing Specialist position for the City of Takoma Park’s Housing and Community Development department.I was referred by the Gaysian™ who is the Administrative Assistant. Granted, I applied in September and my full interview will be on January 4. Whatever happens after that interview is up to them. It could be the start of a new chapter in my life or I’m just employed until March--we’ll see.

Well, that’s about it. I might drop in for a visit another time. In any case, have a Happy New Year!

Oh hey folks. It’s me again bringing you another monthly highlight.

So I’m still at this temporary job until May 19th (allegedly) though I think they’re going to extend me for a short time longer. I highly doubt that they’re just going to end this assignment without they having staff there to answer calls about returning equipment after assessments. Who knows but I’ll be prepared to pack my stuff and leave on the 19th anyway.

Even after all of this work I’m glad to be going on a mini-vacation next weekend to celebrate @unduplicism‘s birthday. It’s gonna be a day of karaoke, dinner, and shade--though I think the shade will come earlier rather than later. Certain persons who show up at these events want to take over karaoke time not let people sing so I’m being appointed to “keep the peace”. And I will ;-)

You know what they say, “April showers bring May shade.”

March Un-Madness

Welp, another month has gone by...and I’m still employed! (for now...)

Although the original end date for this temporary position was March 10, my temp agency let me know that I have been extended to April 21. At this point I still have work to do in finding non-temporary employment but my lazy ass hasn’t gotten around to refreshing my resume. I’m wondering if I should even bother to include these temp assignments because I don’t want to be seen as just a “customer service agent”. 

We’ll see how this goes...

Metro’s union wants a flat fare. Here’s why that’s a bad idea.
Today, ATU 689, the union representing most Metro workers, announced its own plan to fix Metro. One proposal is a $2 flat fare. However, WMATA noted that a $2 flat fare would cost $185 million in revenue — or have to be $3.05 to break even. Beyond that, a flat fare is not really fair for Metro.

So this happened. Seeing is how GGW went over this 5 years ago, I’m still in agreement with their stance. Flat fares here look nice on paper, however don’t work due to the size, scale, and nature of WMATA’s system.

First Two of 2017

Hey there folks, it’s been a while. 

This temporary job has been kicking my butt (especially in January) so I haven’t been able to do much of anything. I’m fortunate that I’m working for a little while and that I was able to get some overtime pay...that I’m still getting due to some weird timesheet policy. 

In any case, the one thing that I haven’t been doing is looking for a new job. I pretty much explained why that hasn’t happened but I know I have to start doing it soon. This current assignment is supposed to end sometime in March and they’ve already started terminating some folks. According to the information the company gave my temp agency, I’m one of the “top agents”. I guess that means I’ll be around until the end of March but at this point, I’m just preparing for the notice that my time’s up.

Time to put some more money in savings. I still haven’t given up on my goal of getting a new computer. The one I’ve been thirsting for looking at for months has come down in price considerably but its still out of reach for me. Anyone got $700-800 they can loan me?

Alas, back to the employment grind.

It’s really freaking weird how Anime is like, considered one single interest by a lot of people and it has a single community here in the states. Like, right now I’m keeping up with Akiba’s Trip and Little Witch Academia, and I’ve been meaning to watch more of Neon Genesis Evangelion, which is kind of like saying “I’m watching How I met your Mother and The Backyardigans, and I’ve been meaning to finish The Godfather.”

This is literally an amazing description of Anime fans with wide tastes.

One day, I’m watching a shounen-ai series (Super Lovers), the next day I’m watching a slice-of-life series about a lethargic guy in high school making friends with different people (Tanaka-kun Is Always Listless). Then I’m watching an action-packed shounen series with tons of fighting (Dragonball) or the shoujo version of action-packed fighting (Sailor Moon) and then a series that breaks the 4th wall with a wrecking ball every 10 seconds (Gintama). Switching over to an epic cooking showdown (Shokugeki no Souma) and then a series about feudal Japan with hip-hop elements (Samurai Champloo). Then there’s the heavy metal red panda (Aggressive Retsuko) and children destined to save the world with their monster pets from an alternate universe (Digimon).

Anime is more than just one genre and it’s amazing how often people make fun of it when it’s seriously taught me so much about how unique people are and how deep life can truly be sometimes.

It got me through tough times in middle school and high school. Even now at 30, it’s getting me through my unemployment.

If anyone ever tells you you’re childish for watching Anime, don’t let them get to you. They’ll never understand how it’s saved so many outcasts and how it empowers these same outcasts to value their own lives.

As a Pokémon fan it was hard for me to accept Digimon, but I must admit that there are some very lovely Digimon out there - just like this beautiful Angewomon! <3 It was awesome to draw this commission piece - wonderful colors and style and I wish Angewomon really existed - so many feathers!

I’m going to go off tangent for a minute because that’s what I always do. I love this drawing, first of all. I also have to say that Digimon is bomb as hell.

Pokémon has its amazing factors for being a fun and easy-to-play video game and the Anime has its factors of being silly, fun, but mostly just a great children’s show. I was an avid collector of the cards and, for a moment, participated in card game tournaments.

However, Digimon as an Anime (and even the games if you care to pay attention) has so much more depth and really speaks to the heart. I’m a fan of both, but I lean more towards Digimon because when Digimon Adventure came out, I was at a point in my life where this kind of series felt necessary. It just felt more relatable to me.

Anyway, again, love the artwork, but I always feel this Digimon/Pokémon war has always been quite troubling as a fan of both.
