At that, Chinese Ed's consciousness was pulled apart and he was received into all the bleakness and pain of the universe. All the colours went out of his world, and all the beautiful simple ironies along with them, and then the world itself was folded away until, through it, try as he might, he could see nothing but the cheesey fluorescent lights of Tig Vesicle's tank farm.

A description of being abruptly pulled from a noir VR, from Light, by M. John Harrison, which I find unaccountably beautiful.

[They] talk of emotional blackmail, the mere idea that you should have to contemplate the feelings of others, becomes a threat to personal freedom. So generosity, kindness and consideration are all transformed into the curse of emotional blackmail.

Daniel Miller, from The Comfort of Things. I have been annoyed a lot lately by people who use the phrase “emotional blackmail” as carte blanche to ignore the feelings of others. Or to dismiss feelings of guilt as an attack by another, rather than recognition of having done wrong. Care for each other, people. (via kiehlmanniac)

Hello, does Mini rhyme with zucchini? I wanna have a word of God on that matter

That I mainly put “Badb” into WicDiv to passively aggressively try to discover how one pronounces “Badb” may be your clue it’s a bad idea to take this Word Of God’s word on matters of pronunciation.

Okay, so you're the asshole of the group. You know this. But you also know that every asshole has an origin story, and yours matters. You use people for your own gain by utilizing a charm that only you know how to possess. People often flock to you because of this charm, and you love the attention. That being said, often times these people only flock because they want something from you, something only your charm and prowess can offer. This often times leaves you feeling used, and so you continue to use others, thinking it's your right. They hurt you, you hurt them back, and so the cycle continues. You are incredibly intelligent, you understand that all small things work together in unique w...

The Theater should be a safe and special place. The cast of The Murder of Gonzago was very rude last night. Apologize!

what I was really excited about was finding a way to talk about relationships that would be fun and exciting and action-oriented in this show that’s primarily targeted at six to 11 year old boys. I wanted the concept of healthy relationship vs. an unhealthy relationship to be exciting as good guy vs. bad guy. The idea of working on your relationship and caring about it would be as exciting as working out and becoming a buff, amazing fighter. This is something that can benefit you and your life and the people around you, if you sort of care about these relationships that you’re in with everyone around you and with someone that you love. I wanted that to be really cool and exciting

Other Kid’s Shows:  Today we’re going to learn that housework can be fun!

Steven Universe:  Today we’re going to learn that idolising our dead parents is unhealthy, because they were complex people who probably did bad things, too.

Other Kid’s Shows:  Filler episode, kids!  Lets have a recap of silly moments from other episodes!  Through the medium of a day at the park!

Steven Universe:  Filler episode, kids!  Lets have two emotionally-traumatised characters fuse, and then reveal their crippling and severe insecurities through the medium of fun imaginary talk shows!

Other Kid’s Shows:  Today our main character will fight an Evil Bad Guy and show how brave and strong they are, because they aren’t afraid!

Steven Universe:  Watch a 14 year old boy cry as he is forced to stab a new friend because of the legacy of his deceased mother.  He doesn’t want to hurt her!  He never wanted to hurt any of them!

Other Kid’s Shows:  Today we will throw in a hamfisted morale tale about sharing by pretending the Native Americans and the European settlers were somehow equally at fault and glossing over a literal massacre!

Steven Universe:  Hey kids!  Today we’re going to learn about consent, and how physical intimacy needs to always be a choice, and we’ll see the complicated and painful result of forced intimacy, co-dependent relationships and spousal abuse!

Other Kid’s Shows:  Today we’re going to learn that bullies are just lonely and you should always be nice to them!  Through the medium of song!

Steven Universe:  Today we’re going to learn how to use mindfulness and meditation to help cope with PTSD flashbacks and panic attacks!  Through the medium of song!

I just… I love this show, man.  It recognises that children are people who live in the world, and who also sometimes have to deal with shit, and teaches them how to cope with that in accessible and healthy and normalising ways.  Instead of brushing it under the rug because adults feel uncomfortable acknowledging that childhood isn’t always a time of innocence.

How do you get over a broken heart?

Avatar

You don’t, ever. Not quite. But time can do amazing things. A deep wound scabs over, and the scab becomes a scar, and then one day you look for the scar and it’s barely visible.

What’s important is not to become the wound. Not to spend your life and your time and your attention on the hurt and the heartbreak. Take it and make art with it, instead, or use it to push yourself forward, into things, not away from them.

Good luck.
