Reaching for the Stars
Dawn flinched a little when the mirror monster exploded. She threw up her hands to produce a shield around herself and Kretin. She would have shielded everybody, but she was little, and she wasn't fast and skilled at magic like her father. He would have shielded everybody. (Or, well, he would have gotten himself and her.mom at least)
The Doctor threw up an arm to block her eyes and hoped that Nezon had the foresight to use his defense matrix on HIMSELF for a change.
Since Dawn had Kretin, and her own magic, Belle ran towards Rumple, through the glittering array of flying bits of molten glass, that turned to shards when they hit her hair, the walls, the floor...
He seemed trapped as if under the influence of squid ink, and she wanted to make sure he was all right.
"Is everyone okay?" The Doctor called out after the explosion, brushing the bits of broken glass from her jacket and hair.
Perhaps it was the shock, but for a moment it didn't hurt as much to move...
"Sorry" Dawn said. Now that the monster was gone she hoped people didn't all decide it was a good time to chastise her.
"That was wreckless" Belle said, though she realized that Dawn was as frightened as the rest of them and she tried to keep her voice from being too chastising given the situation.
Dawn shrunk (literally) and hid.behind Kretin's leg.
"I'm not mad" Belle said. "Just be more careful in the future"
Nezon closed his eyes, and brought one arm up over his face to shield it as mirror shards rained down around them.
He didn’t move the shield, because he wanted to keep that between all of them and the Master and Diizra. As much as he didn’t want to be covered in mirror shards, they seemed like the bigger threat.
“I’m alright,” he said, opening his eyes, and carefully brushing a few mirror shards off his arm. He was as alright as he had been before the mirror creature had exploded anyway, which was probably what the Doctor was asking.
Kretin put his missile launcher back into the weapon slot on the back of his armor now that the creature was once again just a bunch of pieces of the mirror.
“Now we can go back to the TARDIS,” he said.
That was what they should have been doing, instead of worrying about the weird creature, and whether people who weren’t actually there were going to take the mirror pieces.
Kretin reached down to pick up the Doctor so that he could carry her back to the TARDIS.
Rumple tried to move his hand again, now that the creature was destroyed, but he was still frozen in place. He frowned at that, not liking that he was standing there helpless, unable to do anything to protect his family, or get them to safety.
“The creature had some sort of effect on me,” Rumple said to Belle when she came over to him. “Similar to squid ink.”
Except it wasn’t squid ink.
But if it worked the same way, then he might be standing here for a while.
