hello new followers!

A little bit about me, since the blog description thing defies all sensible formatting! I’m British, cis female (bordering on agender but too old and tired to interrogate it properly), very ace, married to an awesome bi woman, 49 on the outside and 25 on the inside, I ride motorbikes and love loud guitar music, and have been kicking around on the UK rock/goth scene for near enough 30 years and fandom in general for over 20 years.

I am most active in the Tolkien fandom, particularly Lord of the Rings/The Hobbit. I reblog a great deal of other people’s lovely art and edits, and I post links to my own fic (I am likethenight at AO3), including a ginormous Bard/Thranduil series called My Heart Is An Empty Vessel and its various related fics which is likely to keep me going for approximately ever, and I have also been busily sailing/more or less captaining the tiny Legolas/Imrahil ship for over 15 years and welcome new crewmates! 

I am a firm believer in ship and let ship, don’t like don’t read, and your kink is not my kink and that’s okay. Antis, terfs, racists and homophobes (including hate against all the letters under the queer umbrella) will be blocked on sight, and blank blogs will be reported as bots and blocked. (this is the participation website - if you’re not participating we’re all going to assume you’re not real)

sigriel week? sigriel week! ...sigriel week?

I saw a post the other day of some lovely art that had been created for a Sigriel Week in 2017, and suddenly felt a powerful need for a new Sigriel Week in this year of the *mumblemumbleth* Age 2024. Would anyone else be up for it? I am very happy to run it, but it would be good to know if anyone else is actually interested? Thinking of all kinds of relationships between our girls, whether romantic, platonic or queerplatonic...

Hey! :D (Sorry, I was away doing busy things at the weekend, just catching up now.)

A new Sigriel Week would be super! I write too slow to ever manage a full themed week, but I could probably do a day or two. :D And I could probably help out with organisational/modding stuff, or coming up with prompts and stuff. Anything you need a hand with. :)

Fantasy often has a medieval European aesthetic and folk argue there were no black people in medieval Europe. Therefore "adding" them makes it unbelievable. They just "don’t fit".

Wrong.

Black people have had loads of influence throughout medieval Europe and before:

These are just a few. Black people have existed throughout all of history and all time that humanity has been doing it's thing. If you have issues fitting black people into a fantasy setting it’s because your perspective is limited and badly informed and that is the only reason.

This is honestly why I can no longer enjoy the Peter Jackson LOTR films. They're lovely with great acting, but literally everyone - except grunts serving the (white) villains under layers of latex and makeup - is white. I just cannot anymore.
