You're making me want to buy an e28 so bad, and I already have a e24, e34, and e46. How much did you spend on the euro bumpers?

Hey, sorry I missed this. I lucked out on the whole set for $1k front, rear, lights, grilles, and fogs + shipping. It was cheap because the car was flooded in. But the shipping is actually what kinda killed it/normalized the price. That's a nice fleet you got going on there. I had an e46 once too. I have an e24 that's waiting on its own euro conversion (bought in addition to the kit above) to be finished since I don't really know how to weld and fabricate. The e34 is strictly for backup while the e28(blown trans), e30(needs a swap), and e24(needs euro conversion completed along with driveline overhaul) are being worked on. All I can say is, it's difficult having several projects. If you got a bunch of cash to burn, go for it. It just sucks (for me) when I'm on the forums and browsing around and an awesome deal pops up and then you buy it and now the other projects missing out on funds. It's a vicious cycle. It also doesn't help that I recently got an e92 as a comfy daily(slowly spiraling into its own build). BMWs are pretty but don't be like an old cat lady equivalent of BMW ownership by getting them all and not giving 100% to each one. It's kinda unfair. LolI may have had too much coffee but TL;dr do it if you got extra money and your current cars are in check and mechanically solid.

Tried looking for the door chime speaker but ended up just disconnecting power to the relay. Same shit. Lol Couldn't find this info on google so here some stuff i learned for those attempting the same.

  1. This can be easily accessed by removing the knee bolster that's held by 5 Phillips screws with varying two different sizes. Keep in mind that the window breaker switch is attached to the knee bolster. You don't really need to disconnect this but if you need more space, do so but remember to plug it back in or your windows won't work at all. (Photo with beer)
  2. After removing the knee bolster, you should now be able to remove the underside steering column cover which is held by three Phillips screws.
  3. You should now be able to see all the wires going up and down the steering column. Look for the silver relay near the turn signal stalk. (Fuck you photo) Disconnect the red/white wire. Be sure to not use anything metal/conductive to not short anything out.
  4. Done. Assembly is steps 2 and then 1.

I'm pretty sure there's a proper way to do this like looking up your ETM and testing with a multimeter and making sure you disable the door chime function only. From what I understand, with a functioning obc and outside temp sensor, this chime also goes off in icy weather to indicate the possibility of iced roads/black ice.

Hope this helps anybody who couldn't google fu their way to find the chime speaker itself. I have yet to find it, but at this point, I don't really care.

Other stuff to do:

  • Double check suspension stuff that i did a month(?) ago
  • Inspect steering coupler because there's still steering play
  • Figure out why my clutch pedal got sticky/ take longer to go back up. I stared at the clutch master and only noticed that the rubber sleeve is torn. IDK what else to check. I'll be checking the slave cylinder
  • Look into possibly putting in a stock 528e harness in because i still can't make the temp gauge sensor work and it's bothering me

Other other stuff to do:

  • Install the heater blower fan
  • Find a working OBC or retrofit my spare analog clock.
  • Fix the stereo harness that PO left. It's gotten so short i have to dive into the center console to be able to wire a new stereo in. I hate how new headunits look but i want to be able to play music from my phone while charging it and only using one cord.

i really need to ask - did you get this car (white e28) for only 500 dollars? im asking cause i really like e28 and it would be so awesome to own one but usually they are much more expensive. i know yours was fucked when you first got it but nothing too serious id say(sorry if im mistaken and it actually cost you a fortune to fix this baby up). anyway keep up the good work and let the classic bmws live forever!

I actually got it for $200. The cost of straightening the frame was around $500. Bumpers and other euro parts were $1000+/- at most which included new mounting hardware. The recently purchased front suspension components were $700+/- so it’s safe to say the money pit is growing. But I may end up selling it once I feel like it is roadworthy which would drive up the price or sell this as is for someone who really really wants the car because if I put in the new suspension components, that’ll obviously drive up the price.

Currently, the car wanders off and out of the lane due to worn out rubber components in the suspension, blown rear passenger shock absorber and possibly worn out rear subframe bushings. The car doesn’t have any A/C or heat and just recently developed what I assume is a power steering leak. I feel a lot of heat near my right foot which is kind of a bad thing since that may be a coolant leak by the heater valve. The temperature gauge is non functional, but given that I’ve yet to see steam coming out of the bay or crystallized residue between the head and block kind of indicate that I’m not overheating. I don’t really care much for the car since it’s really a piece of shit that slightly looks better than the next piece of shit. I honestly thought about boosting the car before since the engine was just recently built for it and getting it sideways on the track. Drift it until the wheels fall off.

My advice for my anybody including my old self if I were able to go back in time is to "Find a decent base to start with.” Bt knowing myself, I'd probably ignore than and be blinded by my 'want' for a certain car. Just look at my e30, also a pile of shit but I bought it anyway because at the time, I really really wanted to. Oh well.

If this was an m5 I’d keep it. Thanks for the nice words and I hope you find your own e28!

Cheers.
