Capitalism lets the poor die of treatable diseases

Communism forces mental illness and differing opinions under the surface.

Capitalism with social healthcare doesn't.

One extreme being bad does not prove that the other extreme is good. The middle way is best.

We can’t jump off bridges anymore because our iPhones will get ruined. We can’t take skinny dips in the ocean, because there’s no service on the beach and adventures aren’t real unless they’re on Instagram. Technology has doomed the spontaneity of adventure and we’re helping destroy it every time we Google, check-in, and hashtag.

Jeremy Glass, We Can’t Get Lost Anymore  (via themilkywhiteway)

Alright, I can't jump off a bridge. If I'm going to save my phone, I'm putting it on the side, and getting back to the bridge may not be easy, or may take a while, and somebody might take it. I could recommend a waterproof case, but that would kill the spontaneity. I'll give you that one.

If I'm going skinny-dipping, I'm already taking off my clothes. Great place to keep my phone, since it was already in my pocket. This one isn't fair.

I use Google Maps to find cool places I want to go. I wander, get lost, and then ask it to show me the way home down the back streets I would never have found. I can remember the cool way that tree has torn down an iron railing with my camera.

This isn't about technology. This seemingly poignant paragraph complains that technology ruins our adventures, but it just reminds me of an all too common attitude of mainstream = bad.

I can understand seeing the reverent way people treat their phones and thinking it's obscene. I can understand feeling above the way people Instagram, check-in, and hashtag. But the people who were going to the beach will still go, and they may take some pictures while there. People will still make slip-n-slides in the dorm halls.

At the end of the article this is from, he mentions that his girlfriend asked him if he'd wanted to get lost. If he had said yes, they could have. We can still get lost. The difference is that today, it's a choice.
