Healthy Eyes

Seeing historians signing letters to faculties en mass, literally entire departments, makes me so happy and proud of my peers to see.

But then I remember how few of us there are. How they've defunded history departments for decades.

Go look at enrollment for history programs 60 years ago, versus now. It's dismal. No one is going into history anymore cause society has deemed it a useless degree...when in fact we need it more than ever.

But this was intentional, the defunding of history and historical research and those who hold the voices of the past was absolutely intentional. The fewer of us there are, the less there will be to fight against. We are being arrested and beaten and fired for speaking up in departments across the world. We're targeted for killing by fascists. Because we know the past, and we can see it happening again, and are trying so hard to steer the boat in the right direction... but fascists, more numerous than ever, keep taking the wheel.

So please, if you want to fight for the future, enroll in history. Know your roots. Know the paths that have been set for us, and dare to tredge a new one.
