{NaruSasu Collab fic} “Birthday boy” part 2

A/N: So here’s part two! My turn to start off the post hehe… I promise we’ll make a final post later where it’s easier to read than now, and ofc post it on ao3 and ff.net. But for now you’ll have to make do!
Part 1 @maneki-n-e-k-o‘s drawing inspiring the whole thing:3
Enjoy!

Sasuke knew every secret spot where Naruto was ticklish. It was one of the perks of being childhood friends – and it seemed nothing had changed as he poked at Naruto’s sides.

“Oh my god Sasuke, please stop!”

But how could he, when he had Naruto squirming underneath him, laughing until there were tears in his eyes. Sasuke had missed this, badly. He missed goofing around, just letting loose and having fun together with Naruto.

He did not, however, miss Naruto talking to Itachi and Shisui behind his back.

“Just give up,” he ordered Naruto, trying his best to stay upright as Naruto clawed at his arms and desperately tried to push him off while also protecting his phone.

“Never,” Naruto wheezed out, glaring weakly at him.

…well, fuck. This was not how Naruto thought this visit was going to go.

“Sasuke, wait!!” Naruto called out, ending the call with Itachi without a second thought and rushing after his friend. “Sas!!”

“Don’t mind me, Naruto,” Sasuke scowled, turning around and facing him head on. “By all means, finish your conversation with your friends-”

Naruto stopped short. Seeing the pure derision and anger on Sasuke’s face felt like he was being slapped. “You shit!” Naruto snapped, anger flaring in him in an instant in response to Sasuke’s glare. “Don’t you know how long I’ve waited to see you again? As if I’d waste a second talking to them instead of you!”

Sasuke knew exactly where he was the moment he woke up, as if his brain had paused mid-thought when he fell asleep and then kick started again. He was surprised he’d slept at all, but apart from gathering up more blankets and pillows in a zombie-like state of mind he’d been dead to the world.

A glance towards the alarm clock by the bed told him it was still rather early, and he wondered if Naruto was up yet. In the past they had both been very good at sleeping in, though Sasuke liked to wake up minutes before Naruto and pretend he’d been up for ages, just to make fun of his friend.

…god, he’d been so immature.

Naruto made tomato omelettes with a side of tomatoes for breakfast, with a little candle in Sasuke’s which he dutifully blew out, much to Naruto’s delight. Sasuke must be feeling guilty about yesterday, Naruto figured, to go along with that “stupid meaningless ritual” without too much prodding.

“I’ve got a big day planned, Sasuke!!” Naruto announced as they left the apartment. “Try to keep up!” he added with a cheeky grin as he caught Sasuke stifling a yawn. He himself had had three coffees this morning, so he definitely wouldn’t be caught yawning!

Naruto looked like he’d been lost in thought, staring dumbly at him. He sighed.

“I said it seems to be letting up. Should we make a run for it?”

“The rain?”

When Sasuke nodded, Naruto glanced out the window as if surprised it was there.

“Oh. Yeah, sure.”

Their eyes met again, a shiver making its way down Sasuke’s spine at how grey Naruto’s appeared in the dull light coming from outside. He quickly stood up, placing their things on the tray and then carrying it over to the tray return.

Naruto followed him, his gaze prickling at Sasuke’s neck the whole time. It made him all too aware of how close they’d been the entire day, unintentional or not. It had been all too easy to fall back into their old routine, and Sasuke had enjoyed himself so much that at times he even managed to forget what day it was.

{narusasu collab fic} “Birthday Boy”

A/N: @fangirlandiknowit101 and I have been trying to write a collaboration ever since she got this awesome pic from @maneki-n-e-k-o. So finally it begins! Dedicated to our precious duckbutt on his birthday <3.

Birthday Boy {a collaboration with @fangirlandiknowit101}

Naruto had scrupulously avoided using the word ‘birthday’. For all Sasuke knew, Naruto had forgotten all about it. It had been a mission and a half just to get Sasuke to agree to meet up at all; he would never have agreed if he knew that Naruto had a reason to make an even bigger deal out of the day.

He stood fidgeting by the station gates. If Sasuke had taken the correct train as instructed, he’d be here in less than 4 minutes (three and a half, actually). He shifted from foot to foot, balancing a salted-caramel latte in one hand and an iced chocolate frappuccino with extra cream in the other. He hoped Sasuke liked his drink; Naruto really wanted to share the wonder of Espresso House with him. Wanted to share lots of things, in fact. A ride around the harbour, exploring Old Town, walking across the countless bridges. He ran through his meticulously-planned out schedule once more. It was gonna be great. If only Sasuke was on time. If only Sasuke actually showed up.

Of course he’d come. Wouldn’t he?

Naruto hadn’t seen him since High School. He’d had to survive on photos from Itachi or Shisui’s facebook; the bastard didn’t have one of his own. Their universities were on opposite ends of Japan, but now here they were, both studying in Europe at the same time- it was fate! It’s just an hour flight to Stockholm, Sas, Naruto had begged. And so cheap! Just come over. I’ll show you around!

One minute left.

His fidgeting grew worse. Sasuke’s latte was getting cold. Jagged pieces of memory flitted through Naruto’s mind; feathery shivers ghosted up and down his arms. He held his frappuccino to his heated cheeks. Don’t blush in front of Sasuke, loser, Naruto told himself firmly. Look, we’re just friends, okay? That’s all we ever were. Don’t blow this chance.

Alright, it was time. Naruto plastered a smile onto his face and waited. And…waited. And waited some more.

…the train station wasn’t that big. Sasuke couldn’t have possibly gotten lost.

Right, he just missed that train, and he’s on the next one, Naruto thought. That was all. It wouldn’t be long and then Sasuke would be here, right in front of him, finally. Just wait a little longer. I’ve waited this long, haven’t I? I can survive another ten minutes.

…*cough* Okayyyy, over to you Emi~~ *blows kisses*. Ohhhh I wonder what you’ll write? And how we’ll find a way to make this NSFW-

Sasuke was angry. Well, maybe angry was too strong of a word, but he was ready to kill a man if something else happened to make him even later. First, the goddamned flight was delayed during the landing. Then, his luggage came last, and by that point he was starting to think it had been left back in Austria. And then, his godforsaken excuse of a phone refused to find a network connection.

Miraculously he’d managed to get on a train only twenty minutes later than the one he was supposed to take, but he spent the whole way from the airport bouncing his leg nervously up and down. Naruto was most likely freaking out by now, and no amount of restarting his phone made it work properly. Of course, the train didn’t have wifi either. Why would he be so lucky? And so he spent the half hour trip to the central station in a bad mood, pretending he was only stressed because of the delay.

It wasn’t that he was meeting his high school crush for the first time in several years, definitely not. He was so over it. They were just friends, acquaintances by now, and the recent picture Itachi had sent him from Naruto’s facebook certainly hadn’t been saved to his phone and poured over in the dark of night.

That would have been ridiculous, wouldn’t it?

He heaved a sigh of relief when the train finally reached the station, standing by the doors long before they opened. His bag wasn’t very heavy, thankfully, and he carried it in a sweaty hand as he could breathe fresh air at last. Scanning the platform as he followed the stream of people he smoothed down his hair, refraining from checking his reflection yet again. They were friends, he reminded himself. The fact that it was his birthday tomorrow didn’t mean anything, it was just the most convenient date for both of them.

Oh god.

Over by the doors leading from the platform to the station he spotted blond hair, and what was definitely an orange t-shirt. He hoped he wore it for nostalgia, and not because he still loved that awful color.

He didn’t realize he’d stopped until someone bumped into him, and he muttered a quick excuse before reluctantly moving forwards again. This was such a bad idea. He didn’t need to remember all the crap from high school again, because he wasn’t proud of most of it.

But Naruto was there, looking as lost as Sasuke felt, gnawing on his lips and searching the crowd. His eyes brushed fleetingly over Sasuke, only to freeze and return to him.

Well, Sasuke thought, heart lurching in his chest. Too late to turn around now.

Naruto leant against a grimy wall, taking a sip of his frappuccino every now and then hoping the sugary hit would make him feel better. I’m such an idiot, he thought, glancing down at his phone yet again. Sasuke hadn’t messaged this morning before his flight like he’d promised to do. He hadn’t messaged at 10:53 when his plane was due to land. He hadn’t messaged in the almost two hours since then. Why? Well, it was obvious, wasn’t it? He wasn’t coming.

Sasuke didn’t know what he thought, other than fuck he’s so hot what did I do to deserve this torture??? But since there really was no turning back now, he nodded and motioned for Naruto to lead the way – he didn’t trust his voice just yet. Naruto kept talking the whole way, too frantic for Sasuke to find the energy in order to pay proper attention. There was something about sightseeing plans and his studies and the culture shock he experienced upon arrival, and Sasuke kept nodding and humming and offering a “Oh really?” here and there.

He hoped he didn’t come off as too grumpy, though Naruto didn’t comment. He was just really tired after the flight (which he shouldn’t because it was so short, but there may have been a couple sleepless nights involved) and overwhelmed from being in Naruto’s presence again. It took him a while to fit the old Naruto together with this new one, noting differences and similarities as they walked through the station and got on a subway line.

Naruto knew he was babbling, but he just couldn’t help it. The silence was too awkward, and so he kept up his isn’t-Stockholm-amazing babble for the whole afternoon as he showed Sasuke around Old Town, leading him up and down laneways and into little shops.

“And a ton of people died here,” Naruto blurted out as they came to a bright square. “Nobles- they got their heads chopped right off! Pretty gory, right?”

“Mm,” Sasuke murmured back, with the same polite-but-detached attention he’d shown everything else on Naruto’s tour. He looked around and made a small, how-interesting noise, but his expression was vacant and far away.
