The URL says it all. Well not all, but that's mainly why I'm here. Probably older than most here, but don't worry, I won't tell anyone to get off my lawn or start any story with "back in my day" 😉 I tend to swear frequently. If it bothers you and you want me to tag it, let me know.

Confession: I love Molly Hooper

And reading books by sir Arthur Conan Doyle I actually really miss her character.

She was amazing. And she deserves the world. She was a loyal friend. A genius. The nicest person on earth. She was always ready to help. Sherlock valued her greatly (after John helped him remove his head from his ass). She was a bit lonely and she was looking for love but aren’t we all? That’s what made her a great character. A real character. She had her style, she had her life and she was freaking amazing and yes I will elaborate further this is not the last post you’ll see about her on that blog

More reasons I love Molly Hooper for:

  • Her dorky sweaters - she rocks them
  • The fact that Moriarty never really targets her - she saw his face, she’s close enough with Sherlock to know who Jim from the IT actually is, and she is not threatened by him at any moment. Two possible explanations? Jim finds her unthreatening - unlikely, he shot an old woman when she described his voice, Molly actually saw him. My theory - she’s such a lovely person even Moriarty can’t bring himself to hurt her. She’s precious and insecure. I think Jim rarely met people like her and doesn’t want to hurt her
  • The fact that she can understand Sherlock and actually observe and analyze him flawlessly
  • She can and does correct Sherlock’s behavior
  • She cares deeply about him (the whole leaving the wedding early - she’s the one who notices)
  • She has a demanding job and she does great
  • Sherlock trusts her from the beginning (even though he’s an ass towards her)
  • She always wants to do her best (he asked Sherlock if she should behave like John while helping him)
  • She has detective skills but prefers to work in a morgue and I respect that

You know, these new apocalypse prophecies just don't carry a punch. 'Oooo, the illuminati is going to perform a mass human sacrifice under the guise of the eclipse.' Big deal. 'Oooo, the path of the eclipse lines up with the seven cities of Neutrogena and when the sun is covered then everyone that got vaccinated is going to turn into a zombie.' I'm so scared.

Bring back 'huge fucking wolf eats the sun.' That's a classic that never gets old.

I think you're thinking of Nutri-grain.

Neutrogena is a brand of hazelnut-chocolate spread made by Ferrero.

I think you’re thinking of Nutella

Neutrogena is a type of particle released from radioactive materials

One of the best tips for writing descriptions of pain is actually a snippet I remember from a story where a character is given a host of colored pencils and asked to draw an egg.

The character says that there’s no white pencil.  But you don’t need a white pencil to draw a white egg.  We already know the egg is white.  What we need to draw is the luminance of the yellow lamp and the reflection of the blue cloth and the shadows and the shading.

We know a broken bone hurts.  We know a knife wound hurts.  We know grief hurts.  Show us what else it does.

You don’t need to describe the character in pain.  You need to describe how the pain affects the character - how they’re unable to move, how they’re sweating, how they’re cold, how their muscles ache and their fingers tremble and their eyes prickle.

Draw around the egg.  Write around the pain.  And we will all be able to see the finished product.

making cake for the work potluck it may not be in the bert & ernie cake pan but it is hands down my favorite cake ever

[ID: an old, stained recipe for chocolate sour cream pound cake.

ingredients:

  • 1 1/2 cups butter, softened
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 5 eggs
  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cocoa
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 (8 ounce) carton commercial sour cream
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract

Cream butter; gradually add sugar, beating well. Add eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition.

Combine flour, cocoa, soda, and salt; add to creamed mixture alternately with sour cream, beginning and ending with flour mixture. Mix well after each addition. Add boiling water, and mix well. Stir in vanilla.

Pour batter into a greased and floured 10-inch tube pan. Bake at 325 degrees for 1 hour and 20 minutes or until cake tests done. Cool cake in pan 10 to 15 minutes; remove from pan, and cool completely. Yield: one 10-inch cake.

the recipe is credited to Mrs. James R. Lineberger from Gastonia, North Carolina, and a handwritten note at the top of the page says "very good."]
