The black areas represent the remaining natural dark skies in the United States

I’ve been in the middle of the ocean at night and now live in texas and it is so hard to explain to people that no, they have not ever seen the night sky. It is so hard to explain to people that what they think is a proper night sky is fucking pathetic. A disgrace.

People talk about how you can’t see stars in the city and yeah, that’s true, but their concept of “seeing stars” is being able to make out orion’s belt.

So, so few people have see the sky in all its glory and it’s not sad. It’s a fucking crime. Seeing a perfectly dark night, no clouds, not a hint of light pollution? That’s a fucking religious experience.

The sky the vast vast majority of us grew up with is not the sky that inspired us to look up. It is not the sky that inspired constellations. You can’t even see most constellations.

Your ancestors looked at the night sky and said “surely, that is where the gods must live.” And you might be lucky if you can see hardly more than a handful of stars.

The sky is full, fucking FULL, of stars, and you’ve never seen them.

Light pollution must be reined in - there’s a phenomenon in protecting any aspect of the environment: after a generation or so, people don’t know what they’re missing. Be that stars, trees, birds and lizards in their gardens, everything.

Exessive town and street lights are the enemy. Trees, and rules around external lighting help, but Buffer zones, good old fashioned green belts are so important.

I think a lot of people who seem uninspired by the night sky have never actually seen it.  I recommend everyone take at least one trip to an International Dark Sky Place to see what the night sky SHOULD look like.  And then, when you return to your own town, start advocating for change.

and the thing about light pollution is that it’s the only kind of pollution that could be fixed immediately. it doesn’t linger once the source is removed, it hasn’t infected anything or spread to areas we can’t clean easily. if every city passed legislation to change their lighting, within a year (give or take for logistics and stuff) we could solve this.

we have solutions: lights lower to the ground, pointed towards what we actually need to see (the ground) instead of up and sideways and into nearby wildlife; turning off unnecessary lights when they’re not in use; using motion sensors to detect when people are around and need light.

light pollution affects local wildlife, throwing off their sleep cycles and migration patterns.

for more information on this, I suggest the documentary saving the dark. it’s less than an hour long and free on youtube, and has a ton of fantastic stuff about many aspects of light pollution

these girls are the only ones who get it they are the only TRUE influencers... no 1 else matches up

their clothes are always insanely nice and well put together sometimes they even match like here their makeup is always so cute they're always making cute little drinks directly in the mcdonald's dining area and everyone is always SO MAD at them in the comments but they're literally just sitting there quietly and being #REAL. you never know that the girl making the drink is going to pull out next she just brings the entire fridge and glasses from home. open liquor not even hiding it. not one facial expression is ever pulled. they're some of the last cool people on earth i think.

I...tried to make a meme and got carried away and made A Thing that is like partially unfinished because i spent like 3 hours on it and then got tired.

I think this is mostly scientifically accurate but truth be told, there seems to be relatively little research on succession in regards to lawns specifically (as opposed to like, pastures). I am not exaggerating how bad they are for biodiversity though—recent research has referred to them as "ecological deserts."

Feel free to repost, no need for credit

It's really hard to explain what I mean but yknow that moment in the show where the protagonist realises who is pulling all the strings and it all clicks into place. But it implicates their companion in the process? And they turn around to tell their companion about their revelation and the shot changes and you can just see the companion is already 5 steps ahead of them. They're got this knowing look and a smarmy smile on their face. And before the protagonist even gets to speak they have a silent moment of "we both know what we know." LITERALLY MY FAVOURITE TYPE OF VILLAIN REVEAL.
