The entire village of Teguidda-n-Tessoumt in Niger, Africa is pockmarked with hundreds of vividly colored ponds filled with brine. They are attended by the men, women, and children of the town’s roughly fifty families. While the water itself is not colored, the composition of the surrounding clay informs what shades of brown, blue, green, or red the water will appear.
