Today I finally got to see something I’ve dreamed about seeing for many years; the Wieliczka Salt Mine near Kraków, Poland which has been operating since the 13th century. There are many chambers inside and we were only allowed to see a very small percentage of the actual line which is still in operation today. They are beautiful sculptures carved into the salt which looks a lot like granite. The sculptures are disappearing from humidity and have been endangered since the 1980s. You should go and see this while you can! Due to the antibacterial properties of salt, you are allowed to lick the walls - if you need proof that everything is made of salt. Yesterday I stumbled into @darktimestattoo almost by accident... although @david.jorquera wasn’t intending to come in to work, and he ordinarily tattoos things like a “skull eating a baby” 😂 he took a chance on an American woman asking for a #fox 🦊 #tattoo and this is the #wildspirit design that emerged and I absolutely love it. It was a new style for both of us and we had a great conversation. Most of my tattoos are more Americana with bold outlines and bright colors... this is the darkest. And it really communicates some feelings I’ve been meditating on ever since hiking the #HighTatrasMountains in #Slovakia. I met a fox there and it was a beautiful experience for me. Chainsaw carving has taken me all over the world and introduced me to so many incredible artistic people. On this day, Michal invited me for a walk up the mountain to see the sights. We did our best to communicate with a lot of help from google translate. It’s not a perfect translator but it’s just another example of how technology and innovation can bring us closer together. We are running out of excuses to stay isolated in our own countries, knowing only people who were raised in similar circumstances! If you’ve been craving an adventure, all you need is your cell phone! I’m having the best time in Slovakia carving a giant ice church designed by Adam Bakoš, working with so many tremendous artists! I’m blown away by this project.
