So i just finished middle school and I play Baritone. I've wanted to join the Phantom Regiment or the Bluecoats since I was in fifth grade. The marching band at the high school I'm going to is absolutely horrible and there's no way I'd ever be good enough to join the bands I want to. Haha please kill me.
I think even if the band youāre marching in isnāt the best that shouldnāt stop you from working hard and getting better on your own. Donāt let any excuse or boundary get in your way
Being a big fish in a small pond can be frustrating, but it can also push you to seek out resources and schools of thought you likely wouldn't have considered otherwise. Find that drive for self-motivation within you - it will certainly be a useful trait when you show up to your first Regiment audition. :)
Where are my guard people??
Hiya! Do you have any advice for phantom callbacks? I'm so so nervous, I can't imagine getting cut so late in the game, I don't know what to do ._.
(You can hop off of anon btw or shoot me a FB message)Ā
>My best advice is listen, ask questions. Look at the details theyāre not telling you because theyāre not going to explain everything little thing. I.e. if Pelka is teaching a toss, pay attention to not only that but also what are her feet doing? What are the free hands? etc.Ā
>A lot of times people say fight for the front (but theyāre right when it comes to learning choreo), but they always rotate the lines. Also techs will circle around the block. Midori sees ALL.
>Realize that theyāre watching you the entire weekend and not only your small group audition; thatās a huge reason why people choke up.Ā
>Perform and live through every moment. A huge part of being a Phantomette is performance and itās def harder to teach than good hands.Ā
>Prioritize basics as much as the choreo. Donāt flub through things because youāre so worried about trick tosses. Itās cool when people can toss a double turn around catch in a tilt but if youāre 45 planes are garbage, what are you learning here.Ā
>Have a good attitude. If youāre having trouble with something, ASK QUESTIONS. Vets love questions so much. Youāre the phuture of this drum corps. Weāre not here to leave you in the dust. If anything, I have always gone to auditions welcomed with nothing but love. Iāve never experienced anything like it.Ā
>In addition to having a good attitude, staff wants to see what theyāre working with. Thereās no such like as the perfect audition, just the perfect approach. Message me or any of the vets if you have any questions
āBring it inā
