Last night we honored the amazing, formidable and uber-talented artist Saya Woolfalk at the Montclair Museum’s Art Party Benefit. I also want to thank Saya for showing me the true meaning of generosity and friendship. While accepting her award as she was talking about community and how people’s lives are interconnected she highlighted and presented my book. I was so moved by this gesture and felt so honored she would do this. I have received many accolades on this project but last night was the most incredible and the one I will most cherish. I will never forget this moment. You made my year! Love you Saya❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️❣️ #sayawoolfalk #friendship #artparty2019 #loveisthemessage #eliaalbasupperclub (at Montclair Art Museum) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxpSXZbFycn/?igshid=nnyxubn148aa

Oh what a night! Still filled with joy and excitment about last week’s book launch. So many wonderful things said about the project and about each other and how basically we really all need to hold each other down, especially in the times we are living. Thank you so much to the incredible artists who read their quotes with such sincerity and feeling, Shaun Leonardo, Nicole Awai, Michael Paul Britto, Lorraine O'Grady, Dread Scott and Brandi Summers. To my dear friend Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz Klotz aka tenured Chuleta for MCing the evening. To Desiree Gordon, Nico Wheadon and The Studio Museum in Harlem for organizing and hosting such an incredible event. To Hirmer Verlag for believing in this project. To Sara Reisman and The Shelley & Donald Rubin Foundation for having faith and supporting me and this project for the past four years. To all the artists who allowed me into their world to photograph them. To the contributors to the book, Maurice Berger, Brandi Summers and Rocio Aranda and to all those who attended the launch and to those who sent such beautiful well wishes #loveisthemessage By the way Lorraine gets her own post as she took us to church yet again. Check out the next post 🖤🧡💛💚💙🖤❤️💜🧡💛🖤🧡💛💚💙🖤 #community #artandfood #photography #eliaalba #artandsocialchange #familyreunion #RadicalReadingRoom Photos courtesy of @studiomuseum and @rubinfoundation Videos by @jvaldesart (at Studio Museum 127) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bxe7Ba-l8CN/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=w4wruwh3y242

So excited to have my book The Supper Club included in #RadicalReadingRoom @studiomuseum So many great folks on this list with really wonderful content!! “For Radical Reading Room, The Studio Museum in Harlem invited over 40 artists, writers, publishers, and community organizations to share works—their own or those they admire—that engage with the history of black printed matter and the discourse surrounding its circulation. The resulting contributions, presented for visitors to explore at its Studio Museum 127 location, address how art is produced and contextualized, the performance of language, and the creation of black narratives. Housed in a site-specific structure, the reading room celebrates creators of African descent who contribute to contemporary visual culture and challenge structures of colonized knowledge production. As Radical Reading Room pays tribute to Harlem as a site for black creative congregation, we invite visitors to browse the available materials and contribute their own.” Organized by one and only @ellerustle 👑 Come check it out!!💥💥💥 (at Studio Museum 127) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxDTX7bl8jA/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=9cpky4qpja7u

Excited for the book launch this week! It’s going to be a great evening! “Join us at Studio Museum 127 to celebrate the publication of 1998–99 artist in residence Elia Alba’s new book The Supper Club. The evening will include an interactive “menu” of events including vignette-style readings by artists Dread Scott, Lorraine O’Grady, Michael Paul Britto, Nicole Awai, and Shaun Leonardo, and a special performance by artist Wanda Raimundi-Ortiz as “Chuleta.” Alba will close out the program with remarks alongside contributor Brandi T. Summers and editor Sara Reisman. Featuring critical conversations and contributions on race and visual culture, as well as fifty-eight portraits of artists of color, The Supper Club documents Elia Alba’s six-year multifaceted project addressing issues ranging from sanctuary, policing, and post-black identity to the intersectional entanglements of gender, race, and privilege. Copies of The Supper Club will be available for purchase following the program.” Hope to see you there!! ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜🖤❤️🧡💛💚#supperclubartists #bookphotography #race #eliaalba #photography #artandfood #socialjustice #community #intersectionality #loveisthemessage (at Studio Museum 127) https://www.instagram.com/p/BxGsra0FPOX/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1fhvfs91zwx2b

La Lupe! I grew up on a steady diet of this amazing afro-cuban singers songs! My dad was obsessed with her and played her music all the time. He used to tell me how misunderstood she was and how she was ahead of her time. She would howl, cry and scream in her songs. You felt all the passion and pain in every note. She combined rock and roll, jazz, and soul with spanish music and coupled this with incredible, outrageous acts on stage. This diva was a salsa singer, performance artist, boundary pusher all in one. Check out @elatroyano brilliant documentary “La Lupe Queen of Latin Soul” La Lupe was a true ICON. 🖤🙌🏾👑 #blackhistorymonth #icon #afrocuban #lalupe #diva (at Bronx) https://www.instagram.com/p/Btn8MkVFMZQ/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1nfg2ocuujbnc

What an amazing dinner last night where we discussed intimacy and community. It was not my intention to make it a predominately female dinner but here we are!! Many many thanks to our host Joyce Christian and Rudy Green (seated right) for their generosity and opening up their home to us, to MacKenzie Stevens and Clare Donnelly for organizing and helping with the event, to @ut_aah for sponsoring this dinner and exhibition and to all the lovely ladies in the photo for their heartfelt participation. ♥️♥️♥️♥️ #eliaalbasupperclub #community (at Austin, Texas) https://www.instagram.com/p/BtMUlTClqvY/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1ctuciny6cch
