My love for this city grows as the weather heats up. There is indeed a pang of laziness, but it's comforting to me, and sits alongside a breezy, slightly wet winter of great low key events, ran by an amazing community. We went to TAG over twenty times. This weekend is Chun You festival, which is, essentially, a very beloved, grassroots, ran-with-heart version akin to the big ones everywhere else. Stolen headline, and it's the first of many years Hiperson will not perform. We found a little hidden enclave filled with shady Japanese KTV's, Korean BBQ, yakitori spots. Hunting for shenanigans has begun, and my walking beers are barely sweating. Still waiting on the final fixes to my editing computer. A renewed vigor should follow. New whip. Joining the Chengdu e-bike gang. Cheap enough, zippy as hell. The south really got to me I guess, but this is one of the few cities where you can just go and grip easily and legally. Driving this is pretty hilarious. It's pretty much "all bets are off" and you can do whatever you want. They laughed when we asked where to get helmets. I'll be safe. Most of my friends here have had theirs stolen multiple times, so I put some Stolen stickers on it for good measure. At least it will be ironic when the time comes. New semester is chill, and I'm getting back in the swing of things. Editing computer got cleaned of four years of pollution and heads to the shop next week for some more tuning, and we're back in business. Definitely ready for summer now. Onwards! One full day in Kuala Lumpur, and it’s back to Chengdu. What a ride. Got food poisoning again in Jakarta, and am fine after a brief bout of swearing, ralphing, sweating. My body hates Indonesia. It bums me out. Ate too much Wong Ah Wah (healing). Schedule gripped for work. It’s light and perfect for editing wrapped pieces, tinkering with new work. Spring is coming. Shenanigans in Sichuan leading up to summer have me stirred up! Still can’t believe it’s my home and it all panned out this way. Effortless aside from the Visa, which is sorted. Wood knocking. It’s probably not news to some, but Koh Kood island is a ridiculously excellent place to chill out. No nightlife, no assholes, restaurants spread out so you pretty much have to rent a motorbike. Driving around here in an almost trafficless environment was one of the best things I’ve ever done. I am very impressed, and will absolutely be coming back. It’s worth the small effort to get here. If you ever want to do the Thailand thing without the hassle that can come with it, this is definitely your spot. Proud and surprised we made it out of this one with only minor cuts on the feet. Chicago was one thing, but to have such a scene in such a small town was a total game-changer. I’ll also never forget seeing @dillingerfour at the Concert Cafe. I’m still so in love with that band, and hope they can make it to Asia since they’re currently playing. It morphed everything for me. Thanks, Andy. You can really crush for $80 a night Thailand, if you dig properly. I’ve never really done this type of thing, and mostly have my head next to a speaker instead of relaxing or hitting tourist spots. I’ve never even been to the Great Wall, and only first went to Tiananmen last year. Nice to join the fray a bit. Koh Kut on Monday.
