To Heal

Fandom: Legend of Korra

Pairing: Korvira

Words: 1537

Summary: It made her feel sick to the stomach to know Kuvira is all calm about this.

A/N: Happy Korvira Week everyone! Sadly, this is the only thing I can submit for this special week for our favorite couple. But I still hope my one participation still count as something.

“Oh Uhm… sorry.” He apologized and quickly takes the tea away from her, feeling embarrassed with how little he knew about all of this. His shot a quick glance at his mother sitting two seats behind them. She saw him preparing the tea in the kitchen, yet said nothing. It must have been her way of teaching him.

The general nods to her request for water, getting back out of his seat and heads back to the kitchen, firmly placing the second tea cup at the smirking Firelord’s table as he passes.

Almost a minute later he returns to Kuvira with the cup of water she asked for.

Kuvira sighed and rolled her eyes when she saw the look on his face. It was very clear to her that the older man knows nothing of what’s coming from him. She couldn’t help it but snort at the thought, and crossed her arms together at the fact that a forty-year old man knows nothing of what she’s going to go through. It seems that the Fire Lord is enjoying his distress judging by the smirk she threw at him.

“General,” she said, sipping her drink after he handed her the cup of water, “I do hope there are plenty of baby books for you to read in that library of yours.” She drawled, giving the older woman another look over her shoulder and gave the crowned prince a pointed look.

“It seems you won’t be getting any help at all.”

“Trust me, as soon as we reach the Fire Nation, the library will be the first place I go to find out.” In his decades of experience as a soldier, Iroh, the Younger found use of the experience in a variety of situations. Unfortunately pregnancy wasn’t one of them. However the General was adaptable if anything, and could at least get a grasp of this new responsibility at the very least.

He lets out a soft chuckle to the subtle comment about his mother. “This is just her way of punishing me. I’d give it about a week, and she’ll be supportive again.”

“You just don’t know how to be creative with them. I use to bake smaller ones with my grandfather and play pai sho with them. Whoever loses a piece had to eat it.”

“Save your sentimental childhood for someone else. I’m still not gonna eat it.”

“What about moon cakes  got your metal rusting all of a sudden?”

“Moon cakes aren’t so bad. Especially when you have fun with making them. I particularly making the patterns.”

“They’re bad. End of discussion.”

A special video message for @thegreatunxter. And the boyfriend of the year award goes too…
Seriously though she was super cool doing this. I hope I get a chance at seeing her again. (also you’re welcome korvira fans.)

I probably should have posted this on here, with this being a LOK blog and all. Probably would have brought my muse back. Ah well. Another time. ^^

“Not for some time now. Raiko said he wanted to reconstruct the city in a way that would work well with the new spirit portal and the environment around it. So it will take a while.” The general answers, as he approaches with two hot cups of tea occupying both hands. “If you’re worried about the people without homes, we’re currently taking care of them.”

He sits down, looking out of the same window she was, hoping what he said had eased her concerns for the people she effected during the attack. “I made you some tea… I don’t know if you’re in the mood for it, but I noticed you haven’t eaten in a while.”

Her eyes strayed down to the spirit portal below them, the metalbender swallowed thickly as she stared at something she helped create with the Avatar. She felt a raw sense of bittersweet to this, how could something so destruction made something so beautiful?

No longer wanting to look at the destroyed city, she closed the blinds shut and leaned her head against the wall before scowling at the older man when he offered her a cup of tea. “You’re definitely new to this.” She stated before declining the drink and asked for water instead.

“You should know when someone’s expecting a child, they’re not allow to have anything caffeinated…or drink alcohol.”

After boarding the airship with little to no disturbance, Kuvira sat against the window as the airship slowly lifted up from the ground and the metalbender got a better view of the city below her. She chewed on her lower lip, seeing the destruction she caused for the first time, so many buildings were destroyed and many people are left without a home because of her.

She wrapped her arms around herself slowly, shrinking when her eyes are unable to tear away from the scene. “How long do you think the city will be back to normal?” She asked him, sensing him approaching her as she continuously watched the people cleaning the mess down below.

“Not really. The thought of me being a father at all is… surprising to me. I never expected myself to settle down until I retired, and it would have been much too late by then. I always thought my sister would be the one to carry the family name.” He replied in a sigh, taking his hand off of her shoulder, and sitting down in the seat next to her.

image

“Sometimes it’s easier being out there in the fields. Risking your life day in and day out. Knowing that there no one back home that needs you in their life… This is going to change things.”

“Well then, I apologize for the burden my - our - child may bring to your life. You know this is none of my intention at all,” she mumbled, rubbing stomach in slow circles and glancing at the man next to her, blinking in surprise when he mentioned his sister. She was about to ask him about her until the door suddenly opened, and the two older women strolled back in to inform them that it was time to go.

image

“Are you ready for the most grueling seven months of your life?” she asked in a half-joking and half-serious manner.

“I know...” Iroh replied in a low tone, feeling guilty for how that came out. He didn’t want to sound like he blamed her or the child for any of this, though part of him actually did. Before he could say anything else, Su and Lin enters the room, indicating that their time alone was up.

Image

The general gives Kuvira another look, before getting out of his seat and helping her out of hers. “Ready as I’ll ever be.” He said with a sigh and weak smile as they walk out the door.

“I’m not going to sugarcoat it for you, Kuvira. The people’s views of you there are not much different from here. They know that along with the Earth Kingdom people you held captive there  were also firebenders. And even if they weren’t born of there, they are still considered to be people of the Fire Nation.” He places a hand on her shoulder, and looks down at the stomach holding his offspring. “However, I will see to it personally that you are well taken care of…”

image

“As expected, I do not anticipate any party when we arrive there. But I do wish you luck as well, the crown prince sleeping with the enemy is unheard of,” she said, flinching when she felt his hand on her shoulder. “Give it another few months and I will be inflated like an elephant koi fish and waddle around like an otter penguin.” She sighed, feeling his eyes on her stomach.

image

“It’s strange and still all surreal to me…I didn’t expect having my first child to be like this. Tell me, have you ever thought of having kids of your own?”

“Not really. The thought of me being a father at all is... surprising to me. I never expected myself to settle down until I retired, and it would have been much too late by then. I always thought my sister would be the one to carry the family name.” He replied in a sigh, taking his hand off of her shoulder, and sitting down in the seat next to her.

“Yes. Well when you’ve found out you’re having a child with a war criminal, and announce it to the world the next day, you tend to not get much sleep.” Iroh replied, rubbing his tired eyes. “Sorry for the attitude. It’s been a long week of people yelling at me. I’m sure you can relate.” He pulls out a seat for her, and leans against Beifong’s desk. “Since you’ve heard about what happened, I also take it that you know why you’re here?”

image

She merely scoffed at him, waving his comment off. “There’s no need to apologize, I expected you to yell at me or leave me for good when I told you of this news.” She said, staring at the dark bags under his eyes and his ragged state; he almost looked worse than her and she’s in prison.

image

“If I didn’t, I wouldn’t be here,” she drawled out dryly - pausing - then letting out a deep sigh, covering her face. “I apologize for my own attitude, it’s still too much to take in and I’m sure I would be met with the same resentment by your people. Your mother already hates me, along with the rest of the world.” She said with a small look of pain flashing in her eyes.

“I’m not going to sugarcoat it for you, Kuvira. The people’s views of you there are not much different from here. The general’s brow furrowed to the her question, debating on whether or not he should  tell her the grim truth of what’s really going on out there. Letting out a sigh, he reluctantly decides to tell her, not finding a good reason to tell her otherwise

“I would be lying if I said it wasn’t bad. The bandit’s numbers have been growing. lately, and it’s getting worse for the people of the Earth Kingdom. The United Forces and Air Nomads have been working tirelessly, but unless we find the source of these bandit attacks, it will be a while before we see any positive results.”

“An expected answer,” Kuvira commented dryly, staring idly as the citizens of Zaofu continue to mill around. “There’s not much I could do to help as long as I am in here.” She added as they passed over the main part of the city into the Beifong estate.

image

“The proud nation of the Earth Kingdom is no more, I’m not sure if I could even blame this on the former Earth Queen or Zaheer for this mess” she said with a sadden expression. “The war with the–” She suddenly paused, glancing at the older man before snapping her jaw shut and looked away without saying another word.

The general raises a brow to the the last words she said, before cutting herself off. He had a feeling he knew what she was going to say. “It’s okay to bring it up, you know? The war between our nations ended decades ago. Even before my time.” He snickers softly.

Image

“If there’s anything we should take from that is that we eventually recovered from those dark times, and this situation is no different.”

“Well in times like this, we could use any help we could get, especially with the avatar still missing, but we understand her reasons in wanting to stay out of this.”

image

The general lets out a snicker to the young captain’s apology. “It’s fine, and please there is no need to bow a second time. It is pleasure to meet you Captain Kuvira.”

“If I were in the Avatar’s place, I would do anything to fix this,” she commented, rubbing the back of her neck as the train moved out from the tunnel and into the city view, glancing down to see the people walking and milling around the streets with smiles on their faces as if nothing is happening at the outside world.

image

“You’ve been traveling around the Earth Kingdom for a while, how bad is it? How are my people doing?”
