The past and present exist for the sake of the future. It's important to properly scrutinise those. Oh. The future, huh. Well, well, well, speaking of the future, the theme for this year's 24-Hour Television is 'The Future'. Oh yeah, I announced it! I sure undertook a heavy responsibility there, huh? (laughs) Right, so a little while ago, we made the chari-t-shirts. With the modern artist Nara Yoshitomo-san. Yeah, so I collaborated on that with Naracchi. Based on the theme 'the future'. Like, tomorrow's also 'the future'. So is 5 or 10 years from now. So let's make it based on the future, step by step. So we did that collaboration for the chari-t-shirts with that in mind. In the eye of Nara-san's drawing, the word 'future' is written there in kanji. That's my writing, though. And then on the other side, it was Nara-san's idea initially. Like it'd be good to have 'future' written in calligraphy. Then I was like, "Yeah, that'd be great. So who's going to write it?" Then he was like, "That'd be Oh-chan, right?" That was a lot of pressure, seriously! It was difficult. I wrote it a ton of times. In my sketchbook. I wrote it so many times that I couldn't tell any more, I'd written it too many times. Then like, it was down to the last page and I was like, "Ah shoot, I've only got 1 page left. Fine, better get this sorted!" So I set my brush down to the page and wrote it. That one word. "That's it." ...I'd done it. I probably said that to myself. (laughs) I just quietly accomplished it. Well, folks, with the people affected by the disaster in mind... We ask for everyone's co-operation to help Japan get better, even just a day sooner if possible! Good morning. This is Arashi's Ohno Satoshi. Here's today's thought of the day; come on! "Dawning morning star"[1] [BGM 'Kimi ga Iru Kara'] That's the Myōjō. (laughs) You spotted that? I thought of the magazine. That's the only thing that came to mind for me! I've appeared in it quite a lot, like half-naked going 'yay!' and all. Only in Myōjō, right? We've done that a lot. (laughs) Well, not that this refers to that. This refers to Venus being visible in the eastern morning sky. What you see in the eastern morning sky is the 'dawning morning star'. What you see in the evening is called the 'twilight evening star'. Ahh. Dawning morning star, huh? Did everyone see the annular solar eclipse? Ah, as for me, I remember that I happened to wake up at 7.30 without an alarm. Mm. Which means I just went back to sleep. (laughs) It'd have been nice if I saw it! Messed up there. Yeah. So like, they were showing it on TV. Um, on the day of the annular solar eclipse, they mentioned a couple who had their wedding on that day. It wasn't a documentary or anything, though. So they had that on. It was super cloudy so you couldn't see anything at all. Then at the end, miraculously, it just appeared outta nowhere. I felt really touched to see it. 'That's really great,' I thought. I mean, on that day, the husband had kept that a secret from his wife. At that point, it was like, 'what if they didn't get to see the solar eclipse?'... The thought of that was a little sad. Like, initially I thought it was going to be a clip about how they didn't manage to see it. So I was like, 'aw man, seriously?' And then right at the end, when the clouds just cleared away in an instant and the eclipse just burst out, I kinda felt like I was gonna cry. Not only that, I'd woken up at 7.30am and fallen asleep again! (laughs) Man, I should've seen it. Ahh. What a failure! But tomorrow, 6th June, there's apparently something else. You can apparently see an extremely rare transit of Venus across the sun? Like, apparently the next time it'll happen is 105 years from now. That's something to see! But don't look at it with the naked eye. Mm. Man, it's incredible, there's a lot happening this year. It's a year to look forward to. [BGM 'Face Down'] Good morning. This is Arashi's Ohno Satoshi. Every Friday I respond to the messages received on this show. First up is one from Kazuniiru-san of Tokyo. "The other day I changed my hairstyle and it ended up similar to my friend's hairstyle. It's not that I was trying to imitate them, so I feel kinda sorry about that. Ohno-kun, how do you manage not to have the same hairstyle as other Arashi members?" Ahh, I see. Oh! Lately, Matsujun's hair has become kinda brown. I've always been saying in magazine interviews that I'd like Matsujun to change his hair colour - I've said it countless times - and now it's finally come true! (laughs) Like I said, Matsujun has a foreign[1]-looking face, doesn't he? He's got short brown hair now. At first, I didn't recognise who it was. (laughs) So I was surprised. And he's fair-skinned, so I was like, "Ah, he's become a foreigner!" It suits him, doesn't it? He said it's been about 10 years since he's dyed his hair. It's been black this whole time. Man, that was novel. Mm. It really suits him, right? I wonder why he changed it? His mood? Or maybe because he's taking it easy right now? (laughs) When my drama's done, I'll do the same as Matsujun! Next, from Satomi-san. "Whenever I pick up the phone just after I wake up, I always mean to speak properly, but I'm always told, 'Were you sleeping?' Ohno-kun, have you ever tried to hide something but got found out?" For me... Well, it's hopeless, I can't beat drowsiness! It's inevitable. It just comes. Like in the middle of meetings and stuff. It's almost like a habit. And then the scariest thing is, it hit me in the middle of filming for this drama. Mm. I had a day of all-day filming. Like a day where I was just delivering loads of lines, a day of filming a scene where I was solving the mystery. Like, I have days where I deliver lines, and days where I don't say a word at all. (laughs) So like, if it's a day of lines then I won't sleep, but like, with the script... Basically, (Toda) Erika-chan and (Sato) Koichi-papa would be rattling off lines one after the other. Then for me, the script often just has '...' written there. So we'd have full days with scenes like that. I'd just be standing there, or sitting there. I'd get SUPER sleepy. (laughs) At those times, it's inevitable. Mm. Right? Like Koichi-papa would be acting away in front of me and I'd just be expressionlessly standing there, staring at a fixed point. Man, it's tough! It hits me during actual takes, too! You can probably see it, right? (laughs) Man, but it it's really no good, they'd cut it. So I've been trying my hardest. And we just barely... But we still get the OK, so...! So there's moments like that. Man, but you probably can't tell. It's not like it's the whole thing. Mm. Well, at the very least, what I can say now is that in episode 2, at the Serizawa office? That's what happened in the scene where (Nakamura) Shido-kun and I are seated on the chairs! Good morning. This is Arashi's Ohno Satoshi. Here's today's thought of the day; come on! "Do not let circumstances control you. You change your circumstances."[1] [BGM 'I seek'] Certainly. This is a quote by Hong-Kong-born, internationally-acclaimed actor Jackie Chan-san. I, Ohno Satoshi, used to dislike the number of times I had to change outfits, but have grown to enjoy it. I've put my decorative plant right in the middle of my living room. It only goes to show that humans can change the way they live by themselves. But well, you can enjoy things just by changing the way you think about them. Yeah. And well, the number of outfit changes has steadily... But well, it's calmed down a lot more than I'd thought it would when we first started filming. (laughs) But well... But well, I think it'll go to quite a number. So I'm still looking forward to it. Well, so this time it's Jackie Chan-san, huh. I've watched quite a few of Jackie Chan-san's movies. Mm. The one I like best out of them is a movie called 'Wheels on Meals'. Yuen Biao-san, Sammo Hung-san... It was a movie that starred those special three. Man, it was funny! They were great at skateboarding! They were operating a food truck kinda thing, and then they'd use skateboards to take all the orders as well as serve all the food; it was a movie that left a real huge impression. Nostalgic, right? I could watch 'Wheels on Meals' forever! Their action sequences still look so effortless. I thought that was incredible when I watched it. Jackie Chan-san, now, how does he do it? Like whether he's using a chair or a table for an action sequence, he can really squeeze into any gap. He jumps with it and like BAM, just fits neatly into the gap. Like, a gap that would be ordinarily difficult to fit into, where you slowly shimmy in and be like, 'ah, I can just about fit'. He'd just take a running leap, and then slot in. Not only that, he wouldn't bump into anything. There's movies where he just neatly slots in like that. I've forgotten which, but there are. Like, when I first saw that, I probably rewound it about 50 times. 'How can Jackie-san fit??' Man, it's incredible. Of course, I love Bruce Lee, but Jackie-san too, he's totally different. He's different from Bruce Lee, he's got that humour, I guess. Y'know, Bruce Lee's 'Enter the Dragon' also had Jackie Chan-san in it. Speaking of that scene, it was where Bruce Lee had grabbed Jackie Chan by the hair and snapped his neck. So at that time it was Jackie Chan who was grabbed by the hair. And he's still active even now. Just how far can he go? I'd like to hear what the man can't do. I think it's truly marvellous. There's still a lot of of his movies I haven't watched, so I should watch them! Right. Right, so at the start of the week we aired bunch of reactions from everyone. Now I'll be reporting the results about sure-fire methods of winning in janken. That's nice, isn't it? Right, first up is one from Momo-chan. "Satoshi-kun, good morning. Satoshi-kun had said on radio that putting out 'paper' first in janken would help you win. On the same day, I played janken with 6 people and amazingly, on putting out 'paper', I was the sole winner!" Oh! So that's how it is. It's surprising that you could be the sole winner! Right, next. From 'Didn't write any nameee'-san. Seems they really didn't write their name. "Oh-chan, good morning. The other day, I went with 3 friends on a graduation trip. We stayed over in Disneyland and played janken to determine who would sleep on the regular beds or the cots. I put out 'paper' and won there. Oh-chan, I've nothing but gratitude! Thank you very much." Oh! That's pretty great! Next, from another 'Didn't write any nameee'-san. "Satoshi-kun, the other day I had a chance to play janken with 7 people. I decided to test it out, and then amazingly won in one shot. Thank you very much, Satoshi-kun!" I said a good thing, didn't I? Like I said, everyone's scared of putting out paper, right? Basically, you're wide open. So people put out rock as a kind of defensive move, right? Isn't it kinda scary to start with paper? But you can't use it every time. Just the first time, I guess? If possible, in a big group. Putting out paper when you're going 1-on-1 is kinda scary. It's honestly scary. It's better when it's in a big group. Mm. Man, but I'm kinda happy about that. Helping people win just with that. For me, too... I haven't played janken recently. But when I do, I'll confidently put out 'paper'! [BGM 'Daylight'] Next, from Miyu-san from Chiba. "Ohno-san, good morning. I've always been living alone so far, and I eat my meals alone. I've been feeling kinda lonely lately, so I've put Ohno-san's uchiwa at the table and I've been eating in front of it. I'm sorry for doing such a creepy thing!" I like that sort of thing. Mm. Miyu-san eating in front of my uchiwa is... SO ADORABLE! (laughs) I mean, you're doing it because you're alone. Yeah. I want to see a video of that! Mm. But it's not like it's incomprehensible. Like, when you're alone, you tend to do things you can't really explain. But to me, I think that's extremely great. Like, you might discover something, if you try things out like that... Rather than doing nothing about it, it's better to do something. For all you know, something might come out of it! So like, that might be what happens when you're lonely. I mean, like I mentioned it the other day, when I tried putting my decorative plant right in the middle, I was like, "Ohh, that looks snazzy!" I end up wanting to try things too. So like, I think what Miyu-san is doing is interesting. And the fact that it's with my uchiwa, too. I mean, I'm flattered. Well, like, I think it's good to try out things like that! Right, next, from Narumi-chan of Yugawara-machi. "Ohno-kun, good morning. I'll be graduating from university this year. I'll be a pharmacist like I've always dreamt of. I felt the power from Ohno-kun's radio show when you gave an encouraging message to students nationwide who were taking exams. I'm from the Ibaraki prefecture, but I'll be starting a new life in the Kanagawa prefecture. As I've always lived inland in Ibaraki, living in a prefecture where I can see the sea will be a novel experience. I'm still anxious about a lot of things, but I'll listen to FM Yokohama and do my best!" Ohh. It's great being able to see the sea while at work, huh? But like, the Ibaraki prefecture's great. I mean, I'd like to try fishing in Ibaraki. What do I want to catch, you ask? I want to fish for black rockfish. Apparently there are seasons for it. They say that the black rockfish in Ibaraki are super duper big! Like generally black rockfish are about 20cm, or well, on the bigger side, they're about 25cm. The ones they call 'shaku' black rockfish are about 30cm. But the black rockfish in Ibaraki are supposedly like over 40cm! Isn't that amazing? I'd like to see that--I'd like to catch that! And I'd like to fish for that with a specialised rod for black rockfish. They have those. Like, they're more delicate and the line is thinner. So I'd like to go to Ibaraki with a black rockfish rod and try that. Over 40cm is pretty big, you know. I mean, even 30cm has quite a strong pull. So I'd like to experience that someday. Good morning. This is Arashi's Ohno Satoshi. Did you watch my drama yesterday? Here's today's thought of the day; come on! "Believe and act as if it were impossible to fail."[1] [BGM 'I seek'] This is a quote by American inventor Charles Kettering. Translated into Japanese, it means to do things as if you believe failure is impossible. Ah, I see. This was sent in by listener Tomoko-chan. The message reads: "When I first heard this quote, I thought, 'That's totally my younger brother'. My brother is 15 and likes cooking, and he's finally reached the point where he's like, 'I'm going to smoke my own bacon'. Now he's cheerfully making preparations for it. Ohno-kun, is there anything that you'd like to try doing once?" Man, I think that's great. Mm. And like, I'd like him to fail! Then I'd like him to be like, 'But why?' and try again, and gradually get better and better. Then I'd like it if in the future when people mention great smoked meats, your brother will come to mind, and then he appears on TV. (laughs) For me, for things I'd like to try doing once... If we're talking about cooking... Oh yeah! Um, with offal stew or something, y'know, like soup stock with a secret formula? I wanna just keep topping it up and continuing to stew it! I'd like to try making that once. They often have those, right? Like how the flavour has been passed along the whole time. Just by topping it up over and over, in the same pot, just leaving it there the whole time. I'd like to try that! (laughs) I wonder if it's possible? Like they do that for decades, right? Or even hundreds of years. But it enforces the same flavour. There's a ton of them in Japan, right? I kinda want to do that with my own flavour. I mean, like, I'm already 35. I should be able to produce a good flavour, in cooking... (laughs) This is just about cooking, but I guess the flavour changes depending on the person creating it, right? Like even the way you chop things up, it changes the flavour. Your feelings go into it, after all. I'm already 35 and I've experienced all sorts of things! If I impart those feelings into my cooking, I think I'd produce my own flavour. Mm. That's what it's about. So I think it's about time I did something like that. That's why I want to do something long-lasting. Ah, that's right, so like, I don't particularly need any main ingredient. It'll be enough if I can just keep on making the stock! (laughs) Shall I make stock? I want to make stock. Mm. It'd be good if I could make stock. I mentioned it previously. I put in dried tuna flakes. Like I just boiled it. Let's study soup stock. Good morning. This is Arashi's Ohno Satoshi. Here's today's thought of the day; come on! "Every day, I look my children firmly in the eye and say 'have a good day' and 'welcome home'. If I'm constantly checking in with my children, I should be able to immediately notice even the slightest changes."[1] [BGM 'Tadaima'] This is a quote by singer-songwriter Sada Masashi-san. They say that one's eyes convey more than one's mouth does. So looking people in the eye when talking to them is important. When you're heading out, please look people in the eye as you take your leave! Certainly. But well, when I was a kid, I often looked at my teachers' mouths when they were talking. So then they'd tell me to look them in the eye. Mm. But words come out from the mouth, so that's why I watched their mouths. (laughs) That's all it was. So. 'Have a good day' and 'welcome home'. Yeah, we've got another release again. The new single, 'I seek / Daylight'. There's a coupling song in it called 'Tadaima / (I'm back)'. It's the first time it's being aired on this show. Well, for this song... The five of us talked about it and said it's been 9 years since we did an arena tour - which we're currently doing. So that's why we made this song. Well, really... It's been 9 years, so that's why it's in the form 'I'm back'. I think the lyrics were made with that sentiment from the five of us. Well, so we're now singing this in the arena tour. I think it's an extremely good song. Well, so this time we're doing an arena tour. It's quite... well, even though it's an 'arena tour', it's kinda... Like, we've finished Hiroshima and then next up is in July. So there's a 2-month gap. (laughs) We'll probably forget our choreography. Yeah. We've never had a 2-month gap in between before. Mm. With a 2-month gap, we might as well be doing a different concert. Mm. Well, speaking of last year, we did concerts in Miyagi, then there was just under 2 months before the Dome tour, which was a different concert. So like, a 2-month gap is kinda amazing, I think. And like, with the different venues, they're pretty different, so with that there's modifications as well. With a 2-month gap... Honestly, we couldn't just go straight into it without preparation. That's too scary. We'd definitely have to gather, all five of us, and do the final checks several times. So in a sense it's new every time. If it was a tour, it'd be like 3 days later in a different venue or something, right? Or at most a week or so. 2 months... Mm. Conversely, it means we can be earnestly doing it every single time. We can enjoy it. We've got to maintain our physical strength, though, so in that sense. We have to brace ourselves, in a good sense. I think it's a good feeling. [BGM 'Daremo Shiranai'] Good morning. This is Arashi's Ohno Satoshi. Every Friday I respond to the messages received on this show. First up is one from Yoshie-san. "Good morning. My 5-year-old son will be appearing in his first piano recital in July. I'm a complete newbie who's never played the piano before, but I'll be playing a duet with my son at the recital. I'm currently 29 years old and challenging myself right from the very basics at this age. Not only has my memory worsened with age, I'm also anxious and excited. It's a lovely thing to have a goal, isn't it? I'll do my best so I won't be outdone by my child. Ohno-san, is there anything you'd like to do your best at up until summer?" Ohh. That's great, it's great being excited over that. For me... It's not quite 'up until summer', but once the drama's over, I really want to draw a big piece. I'm excited for that. Oh, and fishing. Yeah. I've been holding off on it the whole time. So first I'll go fishing, and then I'll catch some mahi mahi, then once I've settled down, I'll start my big art piece. Well, it's kinda off-season, but it'd be nice to try for some tuna as well! (laughs) I'm excited for that! Right, next, from Hiro-san. "Recently, Satoshi-kun has been appearing in a lot of magazines and talking about all sorts of things and I'm happy about that. Amongst those, you mentioned that you've recently bought slippers with a mop attached. When I read that article, I had fun imagining you sliding around your room in those. I've been so curious as to why you bought that mop. Is the answer any of the following? (1) You find conventional mopping a pain. (2) You discovered it in a shop and thought it was fashionable. (3) You wanted to try sliding around in your room." I guess it's (1)? Like there's a surprising amount of dust, right? My place has wooden floors, so I get a surprising amount of dust. Well, basically, I can clean while wearing those slippers. It's great. So I actually bought them and I slide around in them. (laughs) They slide pretty well! It gets kinda dangerous sometimes. When I try doing turns with all my might, it's kinda... I've tried to see how many times I can spin. And I can moonwalk and stuff in them. Mm. I can dance while I clean! But the dust kinda dances too. It's tricky. (laughs) But well, it's interesting! [BGM 'GUTS'] Next, from 'Careless Hachibei'-san. "Satoshi-kun, good morning. I wrote in to get your advice on something. I'm often careless. The other day when I was telling my friend about one of my careless episodes, they were totally turned off. When I reached my office in the morning and took off my coat to change into my uniform, I realised I'd carelessly forgotten to wear a skirt and was just in my underwear. It just so happened that it was winter and my coat was long enough to hide my lower half so nobody on the train noticed, but this has been the second time already that I've accidentally gone out in just my underwear. When I was like, 'Everyone does that, right? Forget to wear clothes?', my friend was like, 'No, that's unthinkable! That's weird!' Am I weird? If you know any method of curing my carelessness, please share it!" I see. So like, (laughs) it's about the order in which you get dressed. Lay out your clothes before you go to bed! I think you'd be fine if you changed that order. Does that happen in summer as well, then? You don't do that in summer, right? So like, it's the coat. It's when you wear your coat. You can't put on your coat - your long coat. It's because you have a long coat that it hides that. So like, you're better off wearing a short coat. Once, while doing a quick costume change in a concert - I was to do a full-body quick change and then go straight on to my solo. I didn't wear any pants. I'd stripped off my trousers and was just in my underwear. They stopped the music and let me change. And then I was there dancing seriously after that, I was super embarrassed. So that's happened. (laughs) Well, so that does happen, of course! With quick changes, you've got to wear 2 layers or more. So like, Careless-Hachibei-san, all you gotta do is stop wearing long coats.
