I’m tired of hearing people call Ikea furniture “low cost" and “throwaway”–we aspire to be able to afford Ikea furniture (of course, part of our barrier is that we’d have to have it $hipped), and knock-down furniture is often very durable if it’s assembled properly.
I LOVE Ikea furniture. The way it looks: crisp lines, solid colors, easy to clean; that I can put it together myself…Love it.
Don’t love the $$hipping, though. Years ago I bought 4x Billy book cases costing $14/ea and the shipping on top was another $125.
Anyone who calls Ikea furniture “low cost” has never bought this goddamn many bookshelves.
To the tune of They Might Be Giant’s, “Particle Man”
Particle board, particle board
Entire world’s made of particle board
It’s the only thing that we can afford
Particle Board.
--I have three ikea bookshelves, two bitchin’ looking but still particle board lawyer-style bookcases that I scored on craigslist, a gifted ikea armoire, a garage sale ikea dresser and so on.
