Lackadaisy Club Pins are back!

These are in stock and shipping now, but limited in number! We just fulfilled the pre-orders and have some pins remaining, so they're get-em-while-you-can items. Find them now in the Iron Circus Store:

(The paws belong to my cat Gigi. She insisted on being part of the photo shoot.)

can’t currently afford the print copy of the fabulous @lackadaisycats work?

maybe your local library will buy it in the meantime! hand for scale.

reading a hard copy of what I found years ago on the internet is cool in its own right, but the over 20 pages of bonus content are what’s really tempting.

note about the back cover: this is what was facing out as I carried the book in my arm out of the library and into the streets. certainly didn’t make me look like a psycho I’m sure.

How come you guys decided to steer away from an electro swing soundtrack for Lackadaisy? I love electro swing but I'm sure whatever's cooking is going to be fantastic!

Avatar

Rocky was getting pretty out of breath with the wubdub and beat drops. Doing all of those by mouth is harsh on the lungs, donchya know?

Avatar

decided to lean into the electro kazoo instead. ---

Really, though, we didn't decide to steer away from electro swing? There's certainly an element of that to it, just less so for the upcoming diegetic music that the band will actually be playing. We wanted something a little more authentic to the time period for that.

If you're referring to the animated vignettes we've released since the pilot, it's more a case of electro swing not really fitting those specific scenarios (a winter chess match, and some childhood trauma from the 1910s).

Is there any Mafia family in lackadaisy?

In the sense that there's a sort of, uh, organized crime found family at the center of the story, I suppose? There's no explicitly Italian or Sicilian crime family that's central to the story, though, if that's what you mean. Ethnically, a little bit of everyone was in on the game during National Prohibition, so that's how I've chosen to try to depict it.

I just wanted to say that your comics inspire me to draw more 1920s art! i sincerely hope prosperity and happiness to you!

Thank you! I'm not nearly so demonstrative as Charlotte there, but that's roughly what my brain cells do anytime someone says something like this to me about inspiration. ♥

Hello Tracy! Ivy’s birthday is coming soon and so I was wondering what kind of cake flavor does she like? And also another question, is she afraid of spiders? Because I am lol

Avatar

She'd be liable to go for something with a berry or sweetened lemon flavor, like sunshine cake. She is generally not a fan of spiders (but her spider-encounter nerves are steely compared to Mordecai's).

Was it hard to start posting about Lackadaisy and did you ever find it really challenging to find an audience? I want to post about my own project but I’m intimidated to say the least.

It's always been a conflict, somewhere between desperately wanting to share it in my buzzing excitement, and also desperately wanting to hide under the sofa with all of my cringey ideas. Having spoken to other artists about their feelings about their own projects, it seems that's not an uncommon sentiment. It's just a matter of which side will eventually win out. (I don't regret releasing my cringey ideas into the wild, for the record.) --------------------- Finding an audience is a whole other challenge, especially now as everything is so compartmentalized, platform to platform. But, honestly, maybe it helps alleviate some debut anxiety if not that many people will immediately have their eyes on your work.

Generally, I think it's probably best to just work with whichever social media spaces you're most comfortable in. Don't worry too much about being everywhere all at once - it's maddening. You can branch out gradually if need be. You might also consider setting up your own basic website to act as a hub, because you never know which social media company will suddenly pull the rug out from under you. Be patient. Don't dump a bunch of energy into trying to go viral or something. Slow and steady growth is generally more meaningful and sustainable anyway. Keep putting your work out there, even if it feels sometimes like no one is looking. If you're having a ton of fun making it regardless of who's watching, chances are pretty good some people are going to start having fun reading it/looking at it too.
