It’s so obvious how many people have made politics their worldview since they’re lacking a biblical one

They interpret EVERYTHING through their political worldview. Humanity, history, art, everything. And they don’t realize how little they understand.

I remember in Ken Burns Country Music documentary, Roseanne Cash made a comment about her father that he would believe two opposite things at once. She used the example that “he was against the war in vietnam, but he would go and sing for the soldiers in vietnam”

The only way you could possibly believe such an absurd statement is if you view everything through a Political Left and Political Right worldview and derive your entire moral set from your chosen party.

Johnny Cash didn’t believe two opposite things. He simply believed human life mattered, so he didn’t want to support what he believed was a needless war. And because human life mattered, he went and tried to offer comfort to those who were affected by the war. This isn’t hard to understand.

A lot of people will point at a lot of things Johnny Cash did over his career to try to paint him as left wing or right wing, depending on who’s talking and which side is trying to “claim” him. The truth about Johnny Cash is that he viewed himself as apolitical. Because the bold actions he took weren’t motivated by politics, they were based on firmly held principles he had from his Christian upbringing. He didn’t take a hard stance against racism because he was “leftwing” or “rightwing,” he took a hard stance because he believed all humans had value. He didn’t play for prisoners because he was trying to virtue signal politics around the prison system, he did so because he believed all humans mattered and deserved a voice. If you cannot understand this about Johnny Cash, you will never EVER understand any of the choices he made throughout his career.

But you cannot understand it because your worldview doesn’t align with Truth so you will never have an understanding of history or humanity or art or science that is actually true.

(yes, yes, very on brand for me to use a country music history example, I know)

after a few moments of thinking, how badly Rosanne Cash understood her father becomes so painfully obvious, because all it takes to understand Johnny Cash's perspective is to reverse the order of things.

That Johnny Cash valued the lives of soldiers, their happiness and well-being, is WHY he was opposed to the war.

It's 'understandable' why she would miss that, of course. So many anti-war activists blame not the generals or politicians who lead us into conflicts, but rather the soldiers who are sent to fight and die. Like all their stances, they blame the finger, rather than look at what it points at. 'If there were no more soldiers, there would be no more war!' is the kind of position that can only come from someone who refuses to consider why the war begins.

you guys know you can get USB connectable CD, dvd, and blu-ray players right. and you can buy external hard drives with crazy amounts of space for an amount of money that would make the average person from 2009’s head explode bc of how cheap it is. and if you do this and get ripping software such as handbrake for CDs and DVDs and makeMKV for blurays you can both own a physical copy of whatever media you want and make it accessible to yourself no matter where you are. do you guys know this

lots of people are reblogging this and tagging it #piracy—i should clarify, this is not piracy! ripping DVDs and CDs to have your own copy is fully legal, because it’s your legal right to do what you will with your property individually. it only becomes illegal if you then distribute that file on the internet.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

side note, I would recommend using makeMKV for the DVDs as well as blu-rays - the actual use is a lot simpler than handbrake.

Oh yeah, finally bought myself a Cherry Cola! It’s been a dream of mine to try it for at least 15 years.

Gotta say, it was a bit disappointing, it’s not bad, but I guess I didn’t expect it to taste so… Cough syrup-y

Oh well, next thing off the list will be beef jerky!

And so, beef jerky!

Honestly? I quite liked it, very salty and slightly spicy, a strong flavor that really hit a spot, now this is something I’ll try again.

OK, a cousin bought vanilla coke, which I didn’t even know existed, I just tried it and damn, it’s leagues above the cherry cola!

You're in Florida, yeah? Head to a Publix, go to the deli, ask for a chicken tender sub. Buffalo sauce on it is popular, but you can ask them what all they have. Just, go for it, try it, put whatever you want on there.

I thought I needed a new laptop but nope, youtube is slowing down your PC if you have adblock on on any open tab...

To be very clear about this: CPUs aren't magical devices that can operate forever. They generate heat. They wear out over time. This happens faster when they're operating near capacity. This is not just an attempt to inconvenience you; this is an attempt to damage your property.

For the "crime" of not wanting to be tracked/have ads pissed into your eyeballs 24/7.

Even if you've paid for the "privilege" of the latter.

Fuck Google, and I hope they get sued into oblivion over this.

i see everyone in the notes talking about newpipe but nobody's talking about youtube alternatives for desktop

IF YOU USE A DESKTOP PC OR LAPTOP, TRY INVIDIOUS

it is a free, open-source alternative YouTube front-end. in addition to not having ads, it has other great QoL features like a download button. try one of the several instances on that link up there ^^^^

A lot of them probably wouldn't last at your job

Last year I had an internship at a fancy office during the day, and a food service job at night. One of the ladies at the office told me she needed a part-time job for some extra cash, and I let her know about an opening in my food service job, described what would be expected, all of that.

Guys. She quit after one (1) shift, called me the next day, and ranted, “You never told me it was going to be that hard, is that what you do every night?! I’m not 20 anymore, I’m 50, I can’t believe they only pay you $9.50/hr to do all that work!” [For the record, I had coworkers who were 65+]

She was shocked when I explained that yeah, most food service jobs require you to stock heavy boxes, work the register, and learn to cook/prep food, then clean up before you go home. It never occurred to her that people who “just flip burgers” actually have demanding jobs.

“I’m going to have to be extra nice to those people from now on!” Like yeah, no shit?

I’ve told this story before I’m sure, but when I got my first office job and escaped retail hell, I tended to stay at my desk on my breaks. My manager, well-meaning, passed by and reminded me to make sure I took my breaks and got up and got away from my desk regularly.

I kinda laughed and said “Tanya, I worked retail before this. This entire job is a break, to me. I get to sit down all day. Just let me enjoy that.”

And I still think about it sometimes when I’m in the breakroom in the morning. How I have the unspeakable luxury to take my coffee cup, go to the kitchen, wash the cup out, pour myself a new cup of coffee, chat with coworkers if anyone’s in the breakroom while I’m doing that, and then head back to my desk before I really *start* my day. Without worrying that I’m going to get in trouble or be seen as slacking off. As opposed to the rushed “toss your purse in a locker, clock in, and get out on the floor and start cleaning things/helping customers/fixing signage/etc.” start-of-shift routine from my retail days.

When I was a teenager and still on Neopets I was part of a pretty big Star Trek guild and eventually became part of its council, with the solemn duty of creating weekly polls. Well one day I created the poll "Which would win in a fight? Borg Cube or Death Star?". Naturally, since this was a Star Trek guild, the answer was overwhelmingly "Borg Cube", but someone did have the rationality to point out we were biased.

So I look up a pretty prominent Star Wars guild and message one of their council and ask them to poll the same question and get back to me in a week. They do, and naturally the fuckin geeks said "Death Star".

So then I look up a Stargate guild and messaged the lead council member, saying the same thing, and they get back to me almost immediately saying that the Death Star would immediately one-shot a Borg Cube but they would never be able to do it again to another Cube. And I took that wisdom back to my guild and we were mollified, and for one moment the Nerd World was peaceful.

Fuck Texas. They aren’t the south. Neithers Maryland.

Texas is Texas. Also nothing north of the mason dixon is south.

They did go by the Mason Dixon, which would include Maryland as south. But fuck that noise. Fuck the ‘heritage’ bullshit that Virginia uses to still try to be “southern” even though it’s all Yankee sprawl into Appalachia in the west or rich politicians in the east these days. Southern culture has definitely shrunk in geographic area in 150 years. Appalachia should be an area/culture instead.

If you say they went by the mason dixon line then the “south” would extend past the texas pan handle. Because the mason Dixon line is the exact reason Oklahoma has their pan handle.

In 1992 a man that had no record of violence whatsoever was approached and entrapped by the feds illegally.

After he was sent the wrong court date and failed to show up, his innocent son, dog, and wife (while holding their infant daughter) were all slaughtered because of it.

Randy Weaver and his family lived in an isolated cabin in the mountains of Ruby Ridge, Idaho.

An undercover federal agent targeted him and entrapped him into selling him a sawed-off shotgun.

The agent ingratiated himself to Weaver for weeks. He kept asking Weaver if he would sell him a shotgun. Weaver initially hesitated but finally agreed. Then, the agent asked him if he could saw it off first since he didn't have the tools. Though he warned FBI guy it was illegal to do so, he was nice enough to do it anyway. The agent then also had him drive out of the way across State lines to add charges.

After Weaver was sent the wrong court date and (understandably) failed to show up, the feds used this as permission to do anything and everything they could to take him down.

Marshals called in military aerial reconnaissance and had photos studied by the Defense Mapping Agency. They prowled the woods around Weaver’s cabin with night-vision equipment. They had psychological profiles performed and installed $130,000 worth of long-range solar-powered spy cameras. They intercepted the Weavers’ mail. They even knew the menstrual cycle of Weaver’s teenage daughter, and planned an arrest scenario around it.

On August 21, Marshals outfitted in full camouflage and carrying machine guns trespassed onto the Weavers’ property. Three marshals circled close to the Weaver cabin and threw rocks to provoke the Weavers’ dogs. As Weaver’s 14-year old son, Sammy, and Kevin Harris, a family friend, ran towards the barking, a marshal shot and killed his dog. Sammy Weaver fired in the direction those shots came from. As he was leaving the scene, a marshal shot him in the back and killed him. Harris responded by fatally shooting a federal marshal who had fired seven shots at them.

Snipers from the FBI Hostage Rescue Team were sent in the next day and ordered to shoot to kill any adult male outside the Weaver cabin. Randy Weaver was shot in the back after he stepped out of his cabin. As he struggled to return back inside, they shot and killed Vicki Weaver (his wife), who was standing in the cabin door holding their 10-month old baby.

From the testimony of Randy Weaver: "On August 22, 1992, completely without warning of any kind, an FBI sniper shot and killed my wife, Vicki. He was using a .308 caliber sniper rifle with a specially weighted barrel and a 10-power scope. He was using match grade ammunition. He had years of training to kill. I heard him testify at the trial that he wanted to kill. He shot my wife in the head and killed her. She was not wanted for any crime. There were no warrants for her arrest. At the time she was gunned down, she was helpless. She was standing in the doorway of her home. She was holding the door open for me and Sara and for Kevin Harris. She was holding Elishe a our 10-month-old baby girl, in her arms. As the bullet crashed through her head, she slumped to her knees, holding Elisheba tightly so she would not drop her. We took the baby from her as she lay dead and bleeding on our kitchen floor."

Weaver and Harris, who never fired any shots at FBI agents, surrendered after an 11-day siege.

Thankfully after all of this was said and done, the FBI conducted an "internal investigation" and guess what? They did nothing wrong. SHOCKER.

Randy Weaver and his daughters filed a wrongful death suit for $200 million which was related to the killing of his wife and son. In an out-of-court settlement in August 1995, the federal government awarded Randy Weaver $100,000 and it also awarded $1 million to each of his three daughters.

The government did not admit that it had committed any wrongdoing in relation to the deaths of Sammy and Vicki.

The moral of the story is, if the government wants to kill you, they'll find a way to do it. They are not your friend. They do not have your best interests at heart.

If you are an enemy of the state, if they don't like you, the Constitution seemingly doesn't apply.

These federal agencies (FBI, CIA, ATF, USMS, etc.) Do whatever they want, stay in power indefinitely, and have effectively unlimited funds. Not only should they be defunded, they should be abolished entirely. They do nothing but make us less safe and are wholly incompatible with a free society.

The fact that people want to give the government more power, more control, and take away our means of defense (gun control) is absolutely beyond me. If they could pull this off in the 90's they can do it now. I assure you.

Never give up your guns. Your government will kill you.

I can only think of two FBI agents I would trust, and they're both fictional.

Nah cause what I find interesting is the whole "women aren't funny" thing. Because to my knowledge, the most infamous form of male humour is dad jokes which are literally known for being incredibly unfunny and downright painful to listen to. Not to mention the obvious racism, bigotry, homophobia e t.c that's considered dark humour and is therefore funny and socially acceptable.

So where the fuck did this mentality come from I wonder, that women aren't funny? Because as far as I'm aware, the gender with the most facts against them for being downright shite at humour is men. And who do you think conceptualised and ultimately spread these rumours about women and their comical ineptitude? Oh right yeah, the blokes who tell fucking dad jokes.

Your opinion on the subject means nothing. Listening to you talk about men is like listening to a Klansmen talk about black people. Pointless, as nothing of value regarding men will ever escape your mouth.

You can't objectively evaluate that for which you declare a burning hatred.

All that and they still couldn’t present a funny comedienne.

I’m struggling to think of a great stand-up comedienne, someone who has pushed forward the artform and taken the telling of allegorical stories with universal application to new heights of excellence the way Lenny Bruce, Richard Pryor, Sam Kinison, Bill Hicks, Dave Chappelle, Bill Burr, Ricky Gervais, Louis CK and others have done. Or, for that matter, Mark Twain and Oscar Wilde back in the day. The most I can think of are maybe Roseanne Barr or Joan Rivers?, but all that is really notable about them is that they were occasionally funny women, and since there are not many funny women they stood out.

As with all art, women tend to stay in the middle range and the only things that mark their work out as any different from the woman next to them are personal quirks or details of their own life: there is no further insight as to what this means for the wider population (except sometimes interjecting tiresomely predictable and generic feminist propaganda, which kills any humour in what they are saying stone dead) or masterful expansion of the form into startlingly new ground.

I was thinking about the funniest people I have heard in my life. Douglas Adams and early Terry Pratchett books were things I had  to be careful reading on trains, because I would laugh loudly. I couldn’t help myself. Before that, it was Monty Python, before that, The Goodies, before that, The Goon Show. Over and over, it was either men or teams of men.  Now there are women who are funny, but I can’t think of any female writers who put you in danger of peeing yourself. I can’t think of any teams of female writiers. Feminist comedians are almost universally “men are subhuman, amiright? If they could have abortions, then men would have invented atms to get abortions, but because women can have abortions, men have not invented them for us, because they are subhuman”. And a Feminist will think that is hilarious because they know to laugh when the crowd laughs, but it’s not like there’s some podcast or something that is the equivalent of Eddie Murphy’s delirious or raw. There’s no megarich female feminist comedians because, well, feminists like the idea of laughing when they hear “men are subhuman”, but they don’t want to pay for the experience. Feminist comedians don’t sell.

Whereas the male teams could put out stuff people laughed at sixty years later. At the forty year anniversary, people grieved over the death of one member. There’s very few left now.

Soon there will be none, and there’s certainly no sign of feminists replacing them, but worse, no sign of men doing it, and John Cleese explained why. Feminists have created a world where comedians can be physically attacked. Feminists HATE humour. Humour is subversive. They fear and loathe the ability to pierce through all their pretensions. They say laughing at Feminists is “punching down”, because they see someone laughing at how awful they are, and that is the equivalent of a knife to the guts, so they will talk a real man into drawing a real knife and trying to kill the comedian in retaliation.

Feminism is the death of comedy.

And we’ll only see the revival of it with the defeat of Feminism. https://nypost.com/2022/05/17/comedians-getting-attacked-on-stage-like-rock-and-chappelle/

Smiles will return to the faces of the world only once feminist hatemongering is a thing of the past, and seen as comical that such hysterical delusions about reality ever held such sway in the world.

Genuinely trying to understand why a gay person would be supporting the party you do.

Not American myself but from what I understand there’s a lot of homophobia there.

It doesn’t look like Democrats are perfect either but at least less hostile to gays?

I'll dispense with my usual "Shut the fuck up European" image response because you do actually seem genuine, so here's my genuine answer.

Yeah, there's some homophobia on the right. Some. It's nowhere near what the media would have you believe. But there's homophobia on the left, too. The left just has the media and their ability to shape a narrative on their side. The worst thing I've had said to me by someone on the right was that they don't support gay marriage and think its a sin. Or that they think gay sex is disgusting. And that's fine. I don't like hearing about certain sexual acts myself and find them gross and weird. I don't need anyone else to approve or support my sex life.

And as for the part about gay marriage, I understand where most of them are coming from when they say that, too. They truly feel that their religious beliefs are under attack and that religious marriage is supposed to be between one man and one woman. But even many of those people will say that they don't really care if gays get legally married as long as there's some differentiation between the religious ceremony of marriage, and the legal institution of marriage, which are two different things. I personally don't need anyone to validate my marriage but me and my husband. I don't care if it's legally recognized. I don't care if it's recognized by any particular church. My marriage and my relationships are my own personal business. And there are a lot of people on the right who feel the exact same way.

So, that's the worst I've gotten from the right. Let's talk about the worst I've gotten from the supposedly gay friendly left. The following is not a complete list, but here's some of the things that I've been told by Democrats and other leftists when they find out I'm a gay right winger, both online and offline:

  • Kill yourself
  • Die faggot
  • You should be gay bashed
  • I hope you get raped by a closeted Republican politician
  • I hope your dog dies
  • Kill yourself
  • You're a traitor to all gay people
  • Kill yourself with one of those guns you love
  • I hope you get cancer and die horribly
  • I hope your husband dies
  • You should be sent to a concentration camp
  • Kill yourself
  • and basically every anti-gay slur you can possibly think of

That's what I get from the left, from other gay people, when they find out I vote differently then they do. Just based on these anecdotal experiences with the American right and the American left, I think it's pretty clear why I find myself on one side and not the other.

But!

I'm not a one issue voter. Gay issues are mostly meaningless to me. What I care about are personal freedoms, protecting my rights, and the success of my country on the world stage. Currently, the American right aligns with those beliefs way more than the left. That's not to say the Republican Party always aligns perfectly with what I want or believe, but the reality is we live in a two party system. Until enough of us get together and make a nationally viable third party, if the choice in presidential elections is between one party that I almost never agree with and whose stated goals are to violate my rights and destroy everything I love about America, and one party that does what I voted for them to do around half the time, of course I'm voting for the second party nationally.

Locally it can be a bit different. It's easier to effect local elections and policies just by being active, and in geographically close areas the differences between the people running for town council might not be as wide as two people running for president nationally, so I won't just vote the R party line by default. I've voted libertarian locally before. Hell, I even voted Democrat once. But, for the most part, it's the Republicans who I feel will do what I think should be done more than the other parties. And that's why I vote for them, and why I'm a registered Republican. Well, that and I want to be able to vote in the Republican primaries.

DAMN, I love this guy!! He sees the religious 'objections' to gay/homosexual marriage in the correct context. BUT I must vigorously disagree with his statement: "I personally don't need anyone to validate my marriage but me and my husband. I don't care if it's legally recognized." No, he deserves legal protections that goes with being a 'spouse'. Yes you can set up on your own a will and other directives to cover most potential issues, but still I never had an issue with civil unions with full legal rights for homosexual couples.

Well, thank you for saying so :)

Though, personally I couldn't care less about the legal protections, but I still appreciate the sentiment ^_^ I'm not saying I think they shouldn't exist, or that I don't support civil unions under any name, I just personally don't care. It's nice to have, but not necessary for me to consider my marriage a marriage.

I've heard multiple LGBT people say it was easier to come out to their families as gay or trans or whatever than it was to come out to the community as a conservative or a gun owner. I still remember that anecdote about Chappelle's Sticks & Stones special when he got a lot of flak for being transphobic. A friend of his who was trans stood up against the community for him and was bullied into suicide. In private conversations I've heard other individuals admit they are afraid to express some of their views that go against the grain for the herd because they don't want the community to turn on them. A while back my sister lost a good friend over a dumb argument about gender where she believed it was a spectrum and her friend militantly believed it didn't exist at all.

I've heard similar anecdotes from several black men who claimed they never faced racism until they left the Democratic party. Some turned Republican, some turned libertarian, some went full ancap. Since they were no longer a blue vote the left would call them all manner of slurs, tell them to kill themselves, and wish all kinds of nasty things to happen to them.

We see the same thing here with women who are anti-abortion. @anamericangirl has probably lost count of how many different anons have told her they wish she would be raped. Funny enough they often drag racism into it too. They want her to be raped by a black man so she has to carry a brown baby!

I think it speaks volumes that the worst thing leftists can think of to wish on me is that I’m raped by black men, specifically, so that I have to endure the apparent nightmare of a mixed race baby. Like oh and I’m the racist one here?

It’s just astonishing how leftists will, without a second thought, resort immediately to wishing pain and suffering on you and people you love (I’ve even been told they hope I have miscarriages) because you don’t vote like them and then turn around and unironically ask how you can support the other side because they hate you and I’m just like

At most the worst I’ve heard from people on the right is they think it’s wrong to do something or they believe the different genders have different roles in society but that’s not hateful? Hate is wishing rape and death and using vile slurs on someone because you disagree with them and people get that daily from the left. So much so it’s now expected behavior from them.

Leftists are insanely intolerant. Are you a member of a demographic the left believes owes them loyalty and unthinking allegiance?

Watch what happens when you disagree with them. Holy crap. They take that shit personally. And since they see it as a personal betrayal, they want you dead.

If leftists insist they're inclusive, accepting, and tolerant, feel free to laugh in their faces.

During the height of pandemic, I was among the people who didn't like anti-vaxxers because they claimed outlandish things. I remember getting into an argument with an anti-vaxxer who claimed that vaccines will make your heart explode or something. He deleted his comment quickly after but I was thoroughly unimpressed.

However, I wonder: why were you all against vaccines, masks and COVID-19 restrictions? What made you think that this is all bullshit and I should resist this?

We were against the mandates, mostly. If someone wanted to get the vaccine or wear a mask then fine they have the freedom to do it but making everyone do it is an unconstitutional restriction of liberty.

The government has no right to force people to take an experimental medicine. People were banned on social media and censored for asking questions about the vaccine. They were being punished for not blindly following what they were told to believe. We were told the vaccines were perfectly safe and there was no risk but there was no way they could know that because it was a completely new and untested medicine and there was absolutely no research or knowledge on long term effects. And it turns out the “anti-vaxxers” were right about pretty much everything. The vaccine doesn’t stop the spread or protect people from covid and if it did why the hell do you need to get three or four of those shots in a single year?

We know now there are some risks with the vaccine. Myocarditis can result from it and it’s something even the CDC quietly admitted to after a while. There is a risk of myocarditis especially in young people and they still encouraged people to have their kids vaccinated even though children are the demographic least threatened by covid.

And still, “anti-vaxxers” were treated as evil and dangerous. Threatened, even by the White House, with a winter of “severe death” that never happened. They were blamed, censored, mocked, and people even called for their death and for them to be put into “reeducation camps.”

Masks don’t work like they claimed either. There have been multiple studies, again quietly, published admitting this to be the case. And it’s something we knew even before the ridiculous mandates came down. And no one should have been forced to wear one. Ever.

And the restrictions were authoritarian and unnecessary and completely unconstitutional. Covid, from the very beginning, had an over 97% recovery rate and there was no justification for mandating people be locked up in their homes for what turned out to be way more than two weeks.

And they did it all under the guise of “oh we have to for your own good we’re saving lives!” When they weren’t. Nothing they made anyone do prevented the spread or helped at all and they knew it from the very beginning.

If it was really as bad as they said why were people arrested for going to church, having funerals, or visiting family in the hospital but not for engaging in violent riots across the country and why wasn’t anything done to stop people from flooding across the border illegally?

It should be resisted because it’s a violation of your rights and it was all a lie.
