Hi! Welcome to my landfill! Or... etherfill? I am liberal, a devout Latter-Day Saint (Mormon), obsessed with nature, news, politics, mental health, the insanity of our world and humanitarianism. I am a happily married college student trying to figure out what to do with my life. Welcome to my favorite waste of time! :)

On Thursday, a federal appeals court struck down the Environmental Protection Agency’s approval of a pesticide called sulfoxaflor. Marketed by agrichemical giant Dow AgroSciences, sulfoxaflor belongs to a class of pesticides called neonicotinoids, which have been implicated by a growing weight of evidence in the global crisis in bee health.
In a blunt opinion, the court cited the “precariousness of bee populations” and “flawed and limited data” submitted by Dow on the pesticide’s effects on beleaguered pollinating insects…

Seed Saving is Revolutionary Act.

In age when most seed is owned, copyrighted, and patented by multinational corporations, saving and breeding seeds in your home garden is an act of independence and power. When Vandana Shiva asked us to make a video on Seed Saving for the public, we of course said YES. We believe in the power of seed, especially of the heirloom, organically-grown type. If you are gardener or farmer and are not saving your seed, here is the how-to. Complete the cycle. Save your own seed, so that the seed adapts to your garden, your climate, your soil, your taste. Let’s cover this Earth with farmer grown seed once again.

Video up on our website thegrowingclub.com and our YouTube page youtube.com/thegrowingclub . Watch and Share! Dr. Shiva wants this video spread far and wide!

NIKOLA TESLA IS SUPER ADORABLE HE’S JUST WANDERING AROUND AND HIDING UNDER THINGS I’M GONNA SQUEAL

I should probably specify that Nikola Tesla is a cat and Serbian-American inventor Nikola Tesla is not wandering around my house hiding under things because he is dead

I like the implication that if he were not dead he probably would be wandering around your house hiding under things

someone else has a cat named Nikola Tesla

If you want to take your #organic #garden or #farm to the next level, knowing how to make high-quality #compost and #composttea is important. We picked up a bunch of nitrogen-rich food waste from our friends at @swamprabbitcafe today and added the right ratios of carbon-rich wood shavings to kick-start this compost pile. We use the #berkeleymethod which is a “hot composting” method developed by Berkeley University. In about 3 weeks, this pile will be transformed into rich, balanced soil teeming with beneficial microbes. We can make it go further by making aerobic compost teas, or we can just top-dress our beds with it before covering them with a 3-6" layer of wood chips. We haven’t plowed our soil in 6 years and we don’t ever plan to again. #soilbiology #carbonsequestration #livingsoil #organic #NoTill #permaculture #agroecology #GrowJourney by tyrantfarms https://instagram.com/p/7oaVuKpwEd/

Kravitz, now 26, doesn’t take any nonsense. She can’t afford to. If her celebrity parents (Lenny – Grammy award-winning musician and Hunger Games actor – and Lisa Bonet, film actor and former star of The Cosby Show) didn’t invite Hollywood bigwigs to make assumptions, her gender, heritage (African-American and Ashkenazi Jewish) or appearance (septum piercing, multiple tattoos: feather, anchor, hawk) would. In an industry that rarely shows black women as anything but, in her words, “best friend of the white girl”, Kravitz works hard to give weight to her flimsy blockbuster roles. There’s often not a lot to work with. In the Divergent series, she played Shailene Woodley’s plucky ally, Christina. In X-Men:First Class, she was Angel Salvadore, an insect-winged mutant who moonlights as a stripper. “I ask writers and producers: ‘Why don’t you have any black people in your film?’, ‘Why do stories happen to white people and everyone else is a punchline?’,” she says. “What I’m finding is that a lot of people don’t see it’s an issue because it’s not their story, unless they’re black or a minority.”[X]

I’m so happy Zoe is speaking up
