Name: Nyololin

Debut: Super Mario Land

Did you know? Nyololin is a little snake. It breathes fire. That is really all you need to know about it.

…JUST KIDDING! Nyololin holds a secret. A secret that eluded the world for 22 years. For all that time, everyone took Nyololin for granted. Yeah, it breathes fire. It’s obvious. It’s one of the core tenants of the Mario franchise that has never been tampered with.

But then the 3DS Virtual Console manual came along and changed everything.

This cowardly creature blows balls of poison at Mario.

June 6th, 2011. The day Super Mario Land was released on Virtual Console. The day the world was turned upside-down. Where were you that day? And have you ever been the same? That was a hypothetical question. No, you haven’t.

That may look more like fire than poison in the art, but I trust the manual. After all, this is the same one that finally gave us the English name of dear Goombo! Its word is gospel. Also, yes, that would be poison, not venom. Poison is designed to enter the body through swallowing, inhaling, or absorbing, while venom enters the body through an injection or pre-existing wound. You could drink venom if you really wanted to! But that does not mean you should. It could still enter your bloodstream if you have any little cuts in your mouth or esophagus. Please do not drink venom.

I sure got a lot of mileage out of all that! And to think that wasn’t even the reason I wanted to make this post in the first place! I mainly wanted to make it because this sprite is funny.
