Guess who got a button/pin machine and made buttons/pins? Pulled up some art I’ve drawn and printed it out to practice using the machine, really fun!

From top to bottom it’s some illustrations of @donnkinney‘s characters, then @pikachu-noises‘s Space crew! (I stole their art with their permission lol) The last three are my characters with the exception of the squid kid in the center, that’s @raidouraidou‘s Vinny!

And everybody asks why I draw everything at 300DPI lol, it’s so I can do this sorta stuff with it later. Now I have to get everyone their buttons!

I’m going to make so many buttons. If I made buttons for conventions, what characters would everyone wanna see?

Quick phone shots of finished hoodie. Will drag out dSLR for nicer ones later. Also got around to giving Nails a quick faceup(couldn’t find his Mohawk to paint, might need to see about ordering a replacement) and since I had to pull out sewing supplies to repair his shorts anyways I finally sewed him some shiny pleather pants.

Only things I wish I had changed about the hoodie is doing the wings closer to the front and making the red section of the arms a little longer.

Captain America hoodie is based on this pattern. Knit with Knit Picks shadow lace yarn on US000 needles.

Well, @eiko82 asked if I was going to draw the rest of Donn’s characters after I drew Steve as a chibi,… and who am I to deny such a suggestion? So, here we are, stuck with a bunch of adorable characters.

Oh look, here’s a Patreon where you can see more of them, well golly gee.

The cutest versions of my characters ever drawn :D There’s nothing more awesome on this green earth than logging on and seeing surprise artwork posted of your characters!! :) I especially love how Aelith “subtly” hid Tyler’s face "his head sculpt isn't finished quite yet”, haha,..and of course the stripper version of Spade is not to be left out ;-)

Its throwback Thursday time,… this time waaaaaaaaaaay back!! haha

(besides i don’t have any new doll posts quite ready)

22 years ago today i was busy in the creature shop painting turtle parts. LOTS of turtle parts.

Every evening when id return to my hotel room id blow my nose and it would be bright “turtle green” :-( that rubber cement paint was nasty, it got everywhere and on everything.

While i was working on the turtles I took hundreds of pics and these are just a few of them.

I rarely post any of this stuff because the last time I posted turtles work some butt hurt (really creepy) fanboy, who apparently HATED the live action turtles films went on a personal vendetta and began to harass me (or attempt to do so) on my DA page and via email,. (It sounds completely insane but sadly Im not joking about this)..LOL

For the sane adults, i thought id share a few a few behind the scenes pics for those who enjoy seeing retro puppet/creature/fx stuff.

and “baby” me with my late 80s early 90s hairstyle,.. LOL!! ;-D

Once the holiday weekend is over and things get back to normal ill post some Mira progress and more info about Vinces release :-)

Haha thanks Aaron :-D, Ive had a few “styles” over the years. ;-) its funny you rebloged this cause those pics were taken in July in 92, so 24 years ago to this day I was working on ninja turtles, haha

Talk about throwback Thursday ;-)

All Mira dolls will be shipping tomorrow 7/13/2016, I have received everyone’s shipping payment (except for one international order that is a combined doll shipment) and right now I’m printing postal labels and packing.    If you do not receive a tracking number from me by tomorrow by midnight please email me at bishonenhouse (at) yahoo (dot) com.

I had an extra Mira doll and an extra Mira kit that I made available to our patrons on Patreon. (4$ and up Patrons always get first pick when I have extra dolls/kits as well as first pick on new releases) The doll is sold and if no one takes the kit tonight it will be listed for sale publicly tomorrow morning on my store page. (I will make a post with links) This kit is ready to ship immediately (no waiting) this kit however will not include the extra exclusive sleeping faceplate only those who preordered Mira received this extra special limited faceplate with their dolls/kits. If you are interested in Mira and don’t want to wait for her next release please keep an eye out for the post.

I’m still very, very behind on all my orders although I am making slow progress, thanks to everyone for being so incredibly patient. After all of the Miras have shipped I will begin to assemble, finish, pack and ship the Nails dolls and the Nails Kits from the second order then onto Spade.

For those not familiar with my work, Mira (like all my dolls) is made 100% from scratch by myself.  I sculpted her faces/body digitally then sent the 3d sculpt files to a bureau in NY to be 3d printed, once I receive the finished 3d prints of my sculpt I then prime and sand each one perfectly smooth. After my parts have a nice primed surface I create a set of silicone molds from every individual part. I then use my finished molds to hand cast all of her pieces in a high grade urethane resin, once every piece has fully cured I then sand them to remove the seams and make them smooth. last but not least I hand paint and assemble the finished dolls.

I love seeing all the different faceplates together. How do you paint the wigs? My faceup artist said it had a different texture than her faceplates so it was trickier to paint.

Very excited to hear that Nails will be next. Can’t wait to get him :D

The wigs are made of a flexible urethane resin, painting them is almost the same as painting standard resin except that before i paint them I rub the areas to be painted with a tiny bit of acetone on a cloth, it gives the surface a bit of a “tooth” and allows paint to stick better.  I use standard acrylics to paint my Mira wigs, I airbrush a darker color then i use some more acetone or alcohol on a cloth to gently buff the paint of the high spots on the wig to reveal the lighter resin underneath. You have to be careful not to get any paint on the inside of the wig cause it can rub off onto the headcap/faceplates (although a magic eraser usually will take it off) The acetone needs to be used lightly, and it will make the surface of the wig sticky for a little while but once it dries it goes back to normal

All finished Miras have shipped! Everyone who ordered Mira should have received their tracking number today, if you didn't please email me through my bishonenhouse email.

A heads up for $4 and up patrons on our Patreon page, today is the monthly scrap sale!! Every month I clean out my casting rooms "flawed parts” bin and anything that could be fixed or salvaged is offered at half to a quarter its original price to our patrons who like to customize their dolls.  I also often offer OOAK parts that were color samples or test casts. (like that OOAK suede brown version of Spades hat that will be cast in black)

If you’d like to see some of the amazing things done with scrap parts be sure to look back through my page at all the incredible customs other artists have done with them!

I wish i had more time to actually play with the dolls I make, today I discovered that Spades cowboy hat will fit Steve AND Mira! and that Mira’s wig will (tightly) fit both Steve and Vince!, :D... I’m sure with a little Dremeling it could have a much nicer fit. It also fits Spade but he declined to be photographed without his own hair.

Also the Mira Kit was purchased by a new patron last night, For anyone who wants Mira I will eventually open up another order for Mira but only after Ive caught up with shipping Nails/Spade dolls/kits.

Marcus and Esca got beat up!

**These plates have minor flaws in the casting and Donn was selling them a while back, and I got a whole bunch of the same 2 expressions. I turned one into a sleeping plate, turned another into the gold mask prop, and these two…into beat-up character plates. If you have other ideas, feel free to shout them out, I have a whole bunch!**

Once upon a time I threw away all my miscast parts. Even if the part only had a couple of tiny barely noticeable bubbles, in the trash they went. A few months back I began to offer them exclusively to our $4 and up Patrons for a super discounted price in monthly “grab bag” offers.

Its something I plan on offering regularly now to Patrons as I’m ALWAYS ending up with a bunch of very slightly flawed parts during my big casting runs when I cast hundreds of parts non stop for days. High quality resin is really expensive plus the time casting a part is expensive, to recoup the cost of resin for something that id normally throw out is WONDERFUL! and i don't have to feel bad about throwing a bunch of cute lil faces away.  More importantly customizers seem to love these offers because it gives them a chance to experiment and be creative without spending a TON of money and I’ve seen some AMAZING customs done with them!

In the right hands a slightly flawed part can become a OOAK work of art!

Buffs work on these faceplates is a great example of that.

To see more awesome custom work done with my guys be sure to check out this amazing post by Aelith LINK

I’m calling this one, “Nothing in this room!” In the grand tradition of RPG thieves everywhere. See him in person at Dragoncon 2016!

Whoa, he looks super cool! I like the outfit, and gold mask.

Some pics from the last three weeks

Right now I'm still existing in that strange slightly dazed limbo after a big cross country trip and a convention, I'm sitting here re ordering materials (im out of everything, silicone, resin, magnets, clear cote, eyes) and re-organizing the studio, when you don't sleep for four days and work straight though to meet a deadline, the work space will get a "little bit" disorganized (and thats putting it VERY mildly) The day i returned and walked into the studio i was shocked and immediately thought id been robbed and then i realized, nah, i just left the place in a "looted/trashed" state, mostly because I was hell bent on getting Spades molds finisehd and casting one of him to display at my table. It was a MAD last week before the con but thanks to help form Seth i was able to get a display Spade finished!

I had an amazing time at the convention! it was great to meet so many new people as well as see some of my doll friends form the past, I was actually surprised to see a friendly face from my very first displays in Otakon’s artist alley!! (its a small doll world) aside from the con being perfect, and it really was! I'd highly recommend it to anyone on the west coast and the venue is GORGEOUS! Everything else about the trip was also amazing.  I originally intended the trip to be a road trip but getting very little sleep up until the day i left it evolved into a four day train trip (if you enjoy scenery/road-trips and ever get the chance to take a cross country train trip, DO IT!!) On the trip back home i was even able to spend a day in Chicago to see the Field Museum of natural history (a place Ive wanted to visit since I was 8)

The share contest winner is delayed once again, Unfortunately the name slips for the contest were lost, when i arrived in Seattle I discovered them missing and assumed I left them back in the studio, when I finally returned home they weren't here,.. I have no idea what happened to them (I’m also missing two Steve faceplates and a pair of upper Mira arms) they may all be together hiding (and conspiring) somewhere, who knows, In the week of no sleep that let up to the trip anything could have happened. I still have the text files so ill be printing them out again and the contest will finally have its winner sometime next week.

For some peculiar reason when I’m away or when I’m working against a killer deadline I suddenly get emails out the ears, :D seriously!, Am i the only artist this happens to?.. I could sit here in the studio watching paint dry, casting and making molds at a sane, human pace for months on end I wont get a single question regarding an order or my general work and then when Im racing agains the clock and I no longer have a second to spare and beginning to hallucinate from lack of sleep or three days into a train trip crossing the cascade mountains in Washington state in a place where you cant even manage get one bar on the best cellphone made and suddenly the universe decides I’m the most interesting doll guy who’s ever lived and I’m receiving twenty plus emails a day, LOL.. Of course once I’m back in the studio with time to spare,...no one cares who I am, haha ;-)..., I apologize for taking so long to respond to everyone's questions but I’m slow at writing emails as it is. If you haven't received a response to your questions from me by Tuesday (the 14th) please fee free to email again or post your questions directly on my FB page or send me a note/pm.

You know when you feel so happy your chest hurts? I feel that when I mess with these guys. (Or maybe I finally need new filters on my respirator,… LOL.)

Nah, I love these guys! Sanding down seams, painting faceplates, posing them in funny poses for photos and working on them in general really helps me when I’m in a funk, or just gives me a nice sense of accomplishment each time I work. I never thought I’d have the guts to sand seams on a doll, But now that’s all I want to do lately lol. I hope that everybody gets the same kind of enjoyment I do out of their hobbies. ‘cause gosh it’s so darn great having more than just drawing and video games as something fun to do… that then motivates you to draw…. so its an endless creative cycle.. Uh, Anyway…

Steve, Vince and Mira were all made by @donnkinney! Please check out their work and blog if you like these guys! Or you know,.. the Patreon. ‘cause that’s where I got Mira!

I love seeing what Aelith does with my guys/gals, I was originally hesitant about releasing kits but now I love making them because I LOVE seeing the creative things other artists do with them.  I also LOVE the way Steve’s hair looks on Mira :D
