“Koreans are all brainwashed so you can’t compare them to Americans.”

Half of America is so patriotic they believe all school shootings are false flags. There was a ridiculous piece of misinfo that was floated around by mainstream news outlets that the DPRK was forcing people to style their hair after Kim Jong-Un. This was a complete lie, tons of Americans believed it and still do and won’t even do the two seconds of research needed to figure out it’s a complete lie.

Americans are one of the most brainwashed peoples on Earth. They have had their consent engineered since their birth. Ya wanna test this?

1 - Refuse to say the pledge of allegiance.

2 - Say anything negative about the military.

3 - Question Capitalism in any way.

4 - Say that America isn’t the best country in the world.

5 - Make a critique of mainstream American culture.

Do any of these things amoung others and an army of jingoistic super-patriots will descend upon you like an angry avalanche of stupidity with the exact same copy paste arguements they’ve been taught to rehearse.

6. Question the prison industrial complex and it’s inherent racism and blatent unequal treatment of crimes and those accused.

7. Talk about the colonialist history of America and how it was founded on genocide and slavery.

Okay, guys. No. Just. No.

First of all, that opening strawman quote disregards the fact that there are two Koreas: North and South. North Korea is the one with Kim Jong-un and the nuclear missiles and the MASSIVE human rights violations. South Korea is the one with Samsung, LG, and the 2018 Winter Olympics. With that out of the way, let me move on.

You do not get to use whataboutism when it comes to DPRK vs. the United States as if the two countries are somehow equivalent.

I’m not saying this because I think the U.S. is the greatest country in the world. I mean, seriously. Everyday, the headlines are plastered with Trump’s newest dumbass tweet or comment that I can only assume is satire until I realize it is real and this is the world we live in now. We needed a single-payer healthcare system not run by insurance companies, oh, I don’t know, eleventy billion years ago (yes, even before the Big Bang). Racism, homophobia, and misogyny run rampant in our society. Why is Guantanamo Bay still open? Why do rich people run our lives? And yeah, it’s a little weird that we make little kids recite the Pledge of Allegiance.

But do you know how I know that the two countries aren’t the same?

Because I could write that mini-tirade about the broken-ness of the U.S. above and not worry about me and multiple generations of my family being sent to a prison labor camp. And even “labor camp” is a nice euphemism. “Death camp” is a more fitting moniker. Oh, yeah, and if you have kids in one of those prison camps, those kids are prisoners too. Here’s what  Amnesty International has to say about it:

Systematic, widespread and gross human rights violations continued as up to 120,000 people remained in detention in the four known political prison camps, and were subjected to forced labour as well as torture and other ill-treatment.

In fact, every single one of you who wrote something disparaging about the United States enjoys the right to freedom of speech. You could write those edgy opinions about brainwashed Americans because you LIVE IN AMERICA (or some other free country) AND NOT NORTH KOREA.

And really?? The fact that Kim Jong-un didn’t force everyone to fashion their hairstyle after him is somehow indicative of… something?! That Americans are racist or that DPRK is harmless or… what? Are we now like “lol we were wrong about the haircut thing I guess we must be wrong about the prison camps and false imprisonment too”? I mean he had his own brother assassinated using a chemical agent. He continues work on a nuclear program. A nuclear program whose implications are not only scary as shit has also caused tunnels to  collapse leading to the deaths of about 200 people,

So yes. Please protest the U.S. government and write op-eds and educate people about the state of our country. Because it’s not great. In fact, it downright sucks at times. (Plus the fact that Trump seems to begrudgingly admire Kim Jong-un is downright fucking scary.)

But don’t do whatever is happening here–downplaying the civil rights violations of an actual dictatorship by somehow alleging the U.S. is the same? Or worse? Because, I’m sorry. This false equivalency is ridiculous and shortsighted and outright ignores the situation in North Korea.

it’s so irritating when pedophiles demand sympathy because they “didn’t choose to be attracted to kids”.

like yeah, maybe you didn’t chose to be a pedophile.

but you chose to try to normalize your attraction.

you chose not to seek help.

you chose to take a job where you’re alone with and/or in charge of children and you chose not to tell those children’s parents that you’re a pedophile.

you chose to consume child porn.

you chose to join sites full of children and you chose to interact with those children.

you chose to visit places full of children.

you chose to groom kids into thinking that you being attracted to them is fine.

you chose to be left alone with children.

you chose to stalk children.

you chose to have children.

you may not have chosen to be attracted to children but you have routinely chosen to harm them.

“Thoughts can be bad and problematic” doesn’t equal “thinking something is just as bad as doing it.”

“Fiction affects reality” doesn’t equal “fiction is reality.”

It’s possible to be critical of thoughts and fiction without taking it to either extreme.

the road to el dorado when in the context of a d&d game is the most astounding and hellish streak of 1′s and 20′s

“The people think that you’re gods, what do you do?”

“…we go along with it.”

“Roll performance.”

“…I got a one.”

“Your foot gets caught in the stirrup while you try to dismount from the horse. You look ridiculous.”

“Well I rolled a twenty.”

“…somehow, a volcano stops erupting on your cue. Everyone falls to their knees in awe.”

“I roll to come up with an escape plan”  “Alright roll” “…I got a one” “I try to convince the horse to break us out” “Roll…animal handling?” “I got a twenty”

Y'know now that I’ve seen this post I don’t think I’ve ever seen the movie like I thought I had
