Disney World DCP Fall 2014 ~ Disneyland DCP Spring

@twisney / twisney.tumblr.com

I spent most of my childhood at Disneyland, and seeing as how I refuse to grow up, I still spend most of my time there. I love any place that transports you to another time and place, being that Neverland, Wonderland, or the Disney Parks.

So. Let’s break this down, shall we?

Someone on Twitter posted this photo. Apparently, her friend had taken this picture years ago, most likely at Disneyland. From the source:

Going to her friend’s Instagram profile for further investigation however is futile as her account is protected. So what CAN be said about the lady Pluto here? So far I’ve seen suggestions like she’s Dinah, a girlfriend some manager thought up on the spot, Pluto’s mother, or even Pluto’s angel conscience. However, I’m more inclined to believe that this is in fact Mama Pluto.

It’d make sense anyway. After all, there were specially created costumes crafted for one day usage before being discarded or reused later on under a different guise (if that is to be believed, not much info seems to exist otherwise). It’s entirely possible therefore that Mama Pluto was a one time character, at least for 1998 or 1999. Why I didn’t say after? Admittedly, one trend I’ve noticed in varying research was that after the Millennium, the amount of outfits for Pluto had dwindled sharply, reduced to just wearing collars or other minor embellishments. Therefore, the pinpoint for finding out would be pics from that time period. However… it appears such an event hasn’t been documented online at least. Perhaps, like many other treasures, further proof could be sitting in a film roll container in someone’s shoebox or tucked away in some sweet old grandma’s photo album. Until then, this is apparently the one time two Plutos appear together, and one in a dress to boot.

However…if someone out there knows something more about this unusual sight, please contact me about it!

I went to the “Behind the Scenes” panel for Moana at CTN expo this year and the explanation is as follows:

In development, HeiHei used to be a character meant to be Moana’s watchdog. He stands to the side making sure she stays out of trouble (and away from the sea) and judges her (sort of like Flint the hummingbird from Pocahontas) but the directors were worried that it made him too unlikeable. John Lasseter gave the crew about 48 hours to think of a way to figure out how to save his character or else he’d be cut from the film. So instead HeiHei’s IQ was lowered waaaay down, making him more lovable and funny. During a story pitch in which Moana had to retrieve the Heart of Te Fiti from the Kakamora, she originally only retrieved the stone. The artists reboarded it exactly the same except HeiHei swallowed it and the Kakamora was lugging around a chicken instead and it instantly made everything more hilarious. To which Lasseter exclaimed at that moment: “THE CHICKEN LIVES!” an inside joke that was kept at the end of the film when the ocean spat HeiHei onto the shore and Maui remarks “the chicken lives!”

best thing about this movie was the perfectly marketed/polished commercial animal side kick just waiting to be the new olaf and then its in the movie for like 3 mins tops and instead a chicken that eats rocks gets to be the disney animal companion™

IT GETS BETTER.

Once they rewrote the character they were in a panic. Who could voice such a role?

None other than Alan Tudyk, known as “Walt Disney Studios’ lucky charm” due to his roles as Duke in Frozen, King Candy in Wreck-It Ralph and KTSO in Rogue One, who made the front freaking page of the Wall Street Journal due to his performance.

Tudyk says: “The character you’re playing, even though he’s a rooster and is really stupid, you approach it in the same way you would approach Hamlet, which is exactly how I approached it. But they give you the circumstances. “You’re on the boat. You didn’t expect to be here. You just climbed in a boat to maybe sleep. You don’t even know why you climbed in the boat. You’re really that dumb. Every three minutes is a new world to you, so you see that you’re trapped on this boat, and you freak out. Go.”

Note: Tudyk went to Julliard.

John Stamos came to me a while back with a amazing idea to propose to his girlfriend, Caitlin McHugh at Disneyland.

Along with my good friend and editor Tim Mertens we cut together the most romantic moments in Disney Animation history and after it played I added a small custom animated scene with Sebastian telling John to “go on and ASK the girl!”

John then asked her and she said yes! I’m so happy for the two of them! It was a fairy tale proposal! I did the little drawing up top for them to celebrate their moment!
