Capelet into bolero

So I found a pattern on ravelry for a capelet that I have now completed the pattern for but I was thinking about extending it to be a bolero or vest over a tank top dress I recently got. I’m not sure how to create the actual bolero part because it looks like the top part of a blazer at the moment. I was thinking of creating 3 sections then sewing them together at the sides but I am not sure about how that would look. I’m nervous because it’s expensive yarn and I don’t want to screw up! Help yarn people
