Wanderlust + Lackluster 25 year old aimless human. Dreaming is a passion, reality is not | It's hard to kill the human spirit Summed up in two quotes: "People seem to never forget that we all have love within our hearts." "My ideal type is a rich man who dies early."

I need to share this pure joy with everyone. I don’t have any money but if I did I’d blaze this post with it because everyone deserves to see this.

I have several doctor friends and this is usually a good source of entertaining medical stories but today it was a source of Art.

My friends had a teen patient ask them for all their expired Pap smear swabs (which are apparently called cervical brooms). For those unfamiliar, they look like this

She then took them home and came back on her next visit with this

It’s… a peacock. A work of art. Made of expired vaginal swabs, paper, and a plastic hanger.

He has a bow tie and glasses.

I cannot comprehend his magnificence. He’s called Rupert.

you know how people say my sister from another mister or my brother from another mother? I'd like to submit "my non-binary from another sperm fairy"

God I love the way games do tragedy. There is no better way to experience fictional tragedy than via a game: to know what is going to happen and still mechanically force the character into it—or better still, to refuse and then realize that you never had a choice to begin with, just the illusion of it.

I’m thinking about Kentucky Route Zero: one of the characters is a recovering alcoholic who’s handed a shot to make a toast, and you as the player think ‘no, I refuse, I won’t do this to him’ but the game very slowly forces your cursor to make him drink, and clicks it for you. No other medium can really convey the slow dawning horror of not actually having a decision like games can.

Another great example is What Remains of Edith Finch. You know, walking into every story in that game, that it will end in the death of the character you’re controlling, but you walk into it anyway. You keep swinging even though you know the swing’s going to break. You keep playing in the bathtub even though you know you’re going to drown. You stare wide-eyed into the tragedy and you decide to walk into it anyway.

Tragedy enjoyers should play more games is my point here because no other medium can hit quite the same.

Happy to reblog this but please please PLEASE for the love of god and books you all had better be looking for this shit at your local library first. Your first stop for ANY free media had better always be your local library. Using the stuff they offer is how you support them. They have movies, shows, comics, music, audiobooks, and more. Did you know that many public libraries provide you free access to NYT and WaPo with your library card credentials, anywhere with an internet connection? Many libraries give you access to linkedin learning (formerly linda), criterion collection, and other resource streaming sites. Your librarian can probably even get you books (digital AND physical!!!) from other libraries via interlibrary loan! All for free! If you go to the library and they don't like the mail you brought to prove your address, go back when a different librarian is on the desk. There's always one cranky one. Don't let that stop you. USE YOUR LIBRARY.
