While this totally applies to other marginalized groups, I’d like to remind everyone House is specifically talking about an autistic child here.

Remember that.

This. THIS is what bothers me with the “We just want to be seen as normal, using the word Queer is Bad” thing.

My queer, autistic, ADHD, traumatized, disabled ass is never going to be “normal”, and that’s okay.

Yep, same here. And I don’t want the lines redrawn to make me “normal” the way some LGBT folks do, because even if you define us as part of “normal”… the very existence of normal requires an outgroup that’s defined as “abnormal”, and what happens to them? (Exactly what House said… cruelty, possibly disguised as “help”, possibly not, but cruelty nevertheless.)

What? What am I getting out of this?

That an education system structured around forcing 17 year olds to make life changing financial decisions isn’t the best idea.

It’s basically “You want to get a tattoo?  That’s a thing that’s permanent and you can’t be trusted to make that decision, you’re only 17, go get an adult to talk some sense into you.  Oh, wait, you want to take on over $100K of debt?  Sure, no problem!  Just sign here.”

Something as innocuous as a tattoo requires parental oversight, but potentially destroying your financial future doesn’t  Go figure.

let love in. believe compliments. be vulnerable and soft-hearted. tell people you love that you love them. see beauty in everyday things. live life like you’re in a movie. don’t be afraid to begin again.
