Bucky was exhausted, and Steve could see that much or well hear it in his voice.  ”Will let you know Bucky,” he said softly moving to put his arm around his friend’s shoulders.  Bucky needed to rest, he needed a bit of sleep and a few more minutes and then probably a jump.  If they were going to, then Bucky needed to be able to at least think somewhat clearer.

"Rest up will let you know when we’re gonna jump."  He could let Bucky rest, keep an ear out for footsteps or the blare of the horn with the train pulling into a station.  There were signs, and if it came down to needing a fast escape, he’d wake Bucky up and jump.

"Mmmm" Bucky hummed tiredly in what was probably supposed to be his mouth trying to form a sentence. He couldn't fight the exhaustion anymore. The darkness was creeping in fast and his eyes were just too heavy to keep open any longer. Even if Steve hadn't told him to rest he wouldn't have made it any further then feeling his friend's slender arm go around him before he lost sense of his surroundings. Whatever protest had tried to pass by his lips lost when he fell into the oblivion of much needed sleep.

Maybe the train would stop soon and they could get off.  Maybe then they could rest for a while.  Though any of his thoughts were cut short by Bucky’s comment about jumping with him holding on.  ”No, can’t do that!  Buck you could get hurt.”  And then they would really be in trouble.

"Can jump, jumping ain’t hard it’s the runnin’ that’s hard," Steve said, nodding his head a bit.  He could jump if it came to it, and even if he wasn’t the strongest of the bunch, but a simple jump couldn’t be that bad.  Running after that may have been an issue, but he could manage.  He was certain of that at the very least.

"Nah. I'll be fine." Bucky kept struggling, kept trying and trying to stay awake. But the more he fought it the more tired he got, and the harder it was for him to stay awake. Keep his words coherent enough to understand. "Y'c'n jump th'n so c'n I."

It all depended on the jump really, but as little as Steve was he'd probably end up hurting himself no matter what if he jumped. He knew that, and he wasn't going to hear anything about him jumping on his own. "Jess say win."

Steve knew what Bucky did for him, and appreciated it more and more with each passing second.  Bucky, who gave him bigger portions, and Bucky who carried him when he just could not keep going.  This life was not the life for him.  He wasn’t made for traveling so much or the conditions that they had been staying in.  Steve was sure that if it wasn’t for Bucky, he’d be dead.

The promise of maybe getting to sleep for longer periods was enough to get him to smile.  He could imagine it, the two of them finally being able to stay put for a while.  They’d be able to rest, and Steve could do something special for Bucky.  ”Think the train is gonna stop soon?” He asked doing his best to stay awake.

"Maybe." It was hard to tell since he didn't even really know where the train was going in the first place. For them, there's no time to check schedules or ask around to find the right one. For them, you find an empty, unguarded, car that ain't moving yet and take that as your chance to hop on.

"If it don't y'can hold on t'me and I'll jump." It wouldn't that bad, and even if it did Bucky wouldn't complain about it. He'd just keep going like nothing was wrong until they got to wherever this resting place was that Steve wanted to stop at.

Steve was too tired to try and make a clever comeback at the popsicle comment.  He smiled over at Bucky as he spoke about not moving, having food every day, and having it be like they were back home again.  He wished they still were in Brooklyn, but it was far too dangerous.

"Ya mean it?" he asked looking at him with tired eyes.  Between the poor sleep, and bad conditions, he really hadn’t been feeling all that well.  "Think we might even get to sleep for longer times again?"

"Yeah." He did. He really meant it. Even if it meant he had to to go without something himself once in awhile, Bucky would do everything he could to make sure Steve felt like he had a normal life again. For as long as they decided to stay in whatever hovel they could find for the two of them.

"I sure hope so" he sighed out before he could stop himself. As hard as the life on the road was for Steve, who was sickly and little and not the right fit at all for this kind of life to begin with, it had to be just as hard on Bucky. Who carried him when he got down or tired and always gave him the bigger portions.

To someone like that, getting to sleep in later then they had been sounded real good, and with the way Steve was looking at him only made Bucky more determined to make sure he got that much needed luxury.

It was mostly because as a child, snow was something magical for him.  For so long he could not go outside to see it, he had to stay inside and watch as all the other kids played.  Until he had met Bucky at least, then he had been allowed to go outside and play.

"Yup, you’ll see gonna build us a palace."  He was joking, but he did at least want to be able to stay put for a little while.  They had been moving for so long, running for so long that it felt like it would never end.

"An ice palace?" That was enough to get a chuckle out of him. "Wouldn't we get cold in a place like that?" Or colder, considering being out in the snow was cold enough as it was. "Are you trying to turn us into popsicles?"

He's teasing him, of course. Bucky knew the whole palace thing was just a joke. "Wherever we end up stayin'" he added, suddenly getting serious again. "Promise I'll take care of ya. No more running for awhile. Food every day. Be just like we was back home again." Except for the part were he was nearly dragged into the army. That part they could leave out this time, for as long as they could before they were forced to start moving agian.
