ben crawford was doing an AMA and his thoughts on raoul are so disrespectful but so accurate ๐Ÿ˜ญ

OK BUT THUSSS?

Like I've seen the post about how BCraw lied about never trying to make the Phantom sexy with all the receipts of him doing sexy mannerisms. But they were all very stock Phantomisms. He didn't do anything revolutionary that I can recall, or that at least had a personal stamp of sensuality like, say

Or any NUMBER of the things that Hugh Panaro did over his run.

Give me something, ANYTHING to indicate that you connect on some emotional level with your character, sir. You know, like an Actor is supposed to do.

I felt nothing in his final lair. Strange that seeing it live, perhaps the only time I'll ever see it live, is the only time "It's over now, the music of the night~" hasn't completely ruined me for the rest of the day. Because I didn't feel anything hearing Crawford sing it. It didn't look to me like a man saying goodbye to his hopes of love and companionship. To his muse. To the only woman who's ever shown him care and compassion.

It looked like an actor with an inflated opinion of his own importance having a spotlight moment.

Honestly I would rather have seen ANY of Crawford's understudies than him. Unfortunately, due to impulsivity and inattention to detail, Ben Crawford may go down in history as the only phantom I've seen live and that made seeing it on Broadway before it closed a bittersweet experience in more ways than one.

Iโ€™m so happy Iโ€™m not alone ๐Ÿ’œ

Ah, I frighten you, do I?โ€ฆI dare say!โ€ฆPerhaps you think that I have another mask, eh, and that thisโ€ฆthisโ€ฆmy head is a mask? Well,โ€™ he roared, `tear it off as you did the other! Come! Come along! I insist! Your hands! Your hands! Give me your hands!โ€™ And he seized my hands and dug them into his awful face. He tore his flesh with my nails, tore his terrible dead flesh with my nails!โ€ฆ`Know,โ€™ he shouted, while his throat throbbed and panted like a furnace, `know that I am built up of death from head to foot and that it is a corpse that loves you and adores you and will never, never leave you!โ€ฆLook, I am not laughing now, I am crying, crying for you, Christine, who have torn off my mask and who therefore can never leave me again!โ€™

The unmasking scene in the novel was another of the requests ๐Ÿ˜Š
