Clothing manufacturers are simply convinced that no one who wears men's clothes wants anything besides the most boring outfits possible. Often stripes are the most exciting it gets. If you want to wear clothing designed for men but happen to like "color" and "joy" in your life then often the funky printed button down or the hawaiian shirt are simply your only options, especially off the clearance rack.

I actually think it's perfect to convert them into public defibrillators. Since it's a great way to save the phone box which is iconically British.

And it's a perfect place to put them, since it being a bright red box is stand out. And it's a little bit extra weather protection. Before this we were loosing phone boxes fast because we literally did not have any use for them.

I love the concept behind this, but worry about the practicality.  Defibrillators are . . . not one hundred percent safe, and I can see people using them on people who are having entirely the wrong sort of medical emergency (if you are choking or having an allergic reaction, presumably a defibrillator will just make your day worse).  I mean, I presume that if your heart has stopped someone might as well give it a try, what is it going to do, kill you? but I am not sure one can count on members of the general public not panicking and jumping the gun.  Please tell me there are directions for these things?  Please tell me that in Great Britain, people actually read the directions?

The public defibrillators generally need a code to access, which you get from 999 when you call them (if a defib is needed) - so you can't just grab one whenever. They are also automatic ones that talk you through the process and read the heart rhythm and will only give you an option of a shock if one is needed.

So they're pretty cool, especially since immediate chest compressions* and time to defib are huge deciding factors in out of hospital cardiac arrest outcomes (where the arrest was due to a heart cause that the defib can help with, anyway).

My home village has one though I'm not sure if it's been used yet...

*The chest compressions bit is vital too - if someone's unconscious and not breathing normally, call 999/911 and start them - (easy instructions here) https://www.nhs.uk/conditions/first-aid/cpr/ - hands only is fine and you don't need special training to potentially save a life!

Public defibrillators are also generally kind of clever, they give the person using them instructions and can detect if the person actually needs a shock or not. The general idea with these AED devices (automated external defibrillator) is that any vaguely sensible adult should be able to follow the instructions and use them safely.
