Xialiao spun on the balls of her feet in a single, fluid motion at the sound of her name. Instantly her eyes were drawn to the familiar item held outward, heart dropping from her chest and her breath escaping her as she swept forward, closing the distance between herself and Xiahou Yuan with an air of embarrassment, but relief all the same.
“Thank you, General.” She breathed, delicately taking the tassel from his palm. “You’ve saved me much grief.”
“No problem, my lady!”
Miaocai gave pause for amoment, one of his hands reaching up to scratch at his beard. The tassel had looked oddly familiar. Come to think of it...he remembered the exact same tassel belonging to Master Yu Jin. The archer pieced two and two together and the hand that had been scratching at his beard moved to scratch at the back of his head. Miaocai wasn’t a man to pry, but...
“Hey, if you take your bow to the blacksmith here in Xuchang, tell him I sent you! He’ll make sure that tassel never falls off your bow again! That guy owes me...”

“Oh! Lady Xialiao! I knew that was you over there! You dropped something earlier at the archery range! It looked like an important piece of your bow!” Miaocai held out his hand to the woman, and in it rested a familiar tassel.

Xiahou Yuan has a pet peeve in seeing people waste their food. He’ll never say it outloud (his ire will manifest in sour/angry looks or some other negative types of body language), but he detests wasting anything. It’s primarily because he knows what it’s like to raise his family during a period of famine and the sacrifices made.
It was famine in two provinces that made Xiahou Yuan learn the value of sustenance--food in particular. Whatever he doesn’t eat, he’s always saving it for his wife and children, even as they come into better fortunes. Even on the off chance he’s dining out, he’ll give his food away before having it thrown out and wasted.
