A Quick Quick w/ Stooki Sound

With the release of Stooki Sound’s Ösiris EP, they instantly began their North American Ösiris Tour which is now just wrapping up before the new year. The EP presents a refined sound, combines live instruments with a new touch of Jelacee on vocals as well. No one knows how to rock a stage better then these two, we're excited to see where the movement flows in the new year. Amidst their busy schedule on road, we had a chance to catch up with them a few quick questions, check them out below! Your album is called Ösiris so is there an aspect of Egypt that really resonates with you?  The EP is called Ösiris because it represents the god, Osiris, who is the god of transition, resurrection and regeneration in Egyptian mythology. To us, this EP represents a new Stööki Sound and marks the point at which we have matured and furthered our sound. The artwork is inspired by Rorschach inkblots, which are psychological tests that examine a person's personality characteristics and emotional functionality. We were also inspired by this and the way music’s effect on people. Everyone has a unique and personal interpretation and perception of music. Is Endz an ode to your neighborhood? If not, please correct us. What feels like your home away from home? L: NY it has a similar vibe to London J: LA Jelacee: we noticed you are Mcing on the album, who has the koolest (sounding) voice in Grime?Wiley or Skepta? If we’re talking coolest voice in Grime, that award would have to go to either Dizzee Rascal or D Double E.  Jelacee: Word on the street is, you’re avid video gamer, what are you playing right now?Xbox or PlayStation? I play Xbox a lot but i have both consoles. Right now I’m playing Skyrim Remastered and a lot of FIFA17 Luke: Do you draw inspiration and flavour from your father’s band as he had a number one reggae hit in the UK? Yeah for sure, it was a family band as well so growing up being surrounded by musicians definitely had an effect on me and was inspiring. I was encouraged to make music and Dad plays guitar so that was the first instrument I took to. What are you doing right now as you read this?  L: Listening to music J: Typing When can we see you in Toronto next?? We want to head back to the 6ix real soon! We won’t be there until 2017 unfortunately due to our touring schedule. It’s one of our favourite places to play in Canada and city to chill.

Sauga City’s own Pras K is back with his latest release, the “Paper Castles EP”. The young multi instrumentalist, vocalist and rhyme slinger continues to explore the parameters of his artistic imagination through this short but bold project. Pras K takes sharp story telling bars  and unifies them with melodies, harmonies, live instruments that seamlessly bridge themes of romance, loss, self actualization. Dealing with emotional introspection in tongue twisting wordplay, Pras K has fused indie-rock and rap in a thoroughly entertaining and enjoyable fashion. Paper Castles is a true testament to Pras K’s artistic foundations and a reflection of dynamic growth from “Against the Grain EP”.

Get to Know D.W Waterson, DJ & Director of That's My DJ Series

This past summer we were invited to the premiere of, “That’s My DJ” season 2. A series dedicated to the world of musically inclined friends and co-workers in Toronto looking to carve their place in the city nightlife. Season 2 is riddled with such raw emotion that it often leaves you wondering the source of this artistic vision. This leads us to D.W Waterson and the vibrant cast of TMDJ. Waterson and her cast bring yet another adrenaline-filled season that seamlessly blends stylistic, powerful moments with an original score in this beautiful expose into the world of Toronto electronic music scene.

“That’s My DJ” is produced as a short web series that succeeds at embedding an imprint in the viewer's memory in this ever-fleeting vapid cyber landscape. The series manages to connect with the innate feelings of the tumultuous 20s that arise and subside. D.W's penchant for live performance, music production and artistic direction is a beautiful mosaic that is omnipresent throughout the entire series.

Waterson’s focus on the underexposed world of dance music night life brings to light a scene that is often misunderstood. With thematic exploration of heart-break, sexuality, gender roles, and a passion for music, Waterson and company venture deep into the underbelly of rave culture. Furthermore, the cast members are an accurate reflection of the diversity that comprises the city of Toronto.
