I think the song that works best for me on Ryan Adams's version of 1989 is Shake It Off, because when you remove the joy and defiance from the song the lyrics become essentially meaningless, leaving my brain free to focus on the Springsteen-like vocals and guitar riffs. That's not exactly a ringing endorsement.
