RIP, CmarNYC

I’m very sad to report that Sims 3 and 4 creator CmarNYC passed away in October 2023. For 15 years, Simmers benefited from Cmar’s long-honed computing skills as she created much-loved modders’ and players’ tools, including the Sims 3 and 4 MorphMakers and Skininators, the TS4 SimRipper, the Sims 3 XCAS core mod, and many CAS sliders. She was also a contributor to S4PE, which likely was used by creators you rely on. Without Cmar’s work, the Sims franchise would have had a much less rich array of mods and custom content. She will be greatly missed.

As well as Sims, Cmar loved cats, and donations are suggested to the ASPCA, the TinyKittens Society, or an animal-related charity near you.

I had so much fun doing TS3 stuff again :)

I have to really get back used to it tho cuz this took entirely too long and her fingers are sinking into her legs and i didn’t care to fix it lol

remember: the black girls y’all called ratchet and ghetto and trashy for the big bamboo earrings, long braids, big necklaces, long acrylics in the early 00s were the footprint for the y2k fashion yall love so dearly. you’d be nothing without black girls

Let us not forget LL Cool J’s love letter to those girls.

I’ve gotten some requests to make a tutorial for the effects I’ve used in these sets here and here. Hopefully this all makes sense and is actually helpful! This tutorial is made assuming you already know how to make gifs and will be done using photoshop on a mac. If you have any questions or any other requests for tutorials please send me an ask! I used this tutorial here myself to learn, but I wanted to make a more step by step tutorial for those who are more visual learners like myself.

[Beta Testing] Head Replacement - Part 1

Our first BETA of the Medieval heads > TS3 conversion! :) The last couple of months (I started this back in April, so a long time! :p) I’ve been converting all the sliders to work with the face :)

This has probably been the hardest replacement project I’ve ever done and it still needs tweaking here and there, but I figured I should have some of you help me out as well!

Why Part 1?

I’ve converted all the mesh sliders. The sims actually come with normal sliders (they create shadows on the face where necessary) and actually mesh sliders (so the vertices are manipulated by the game to be shaped a certain way).

And because I’ve only done the mesh sliders, you are going to have sims in CAS, that have these odd spots on them. You may also notice that as well when you use certain sliders they get worse/better. I’m working on fixing this! But that will be in Part 2 of the Beta testing :)

Also FYI if you’re gonna paywall poses for the sims…where’s the cut you’re sending to the modder who created the pose player and whoever maintains it? Like almost no poses work without it and yet it was FREELY given to the sims 4 community.

The f’ing audacity people have to take tools given to the community for the sake of creation and fun, and decide “I’m just gonna use this to monetize the shit out of everything and paywall it.”

Just saying.

I also have to chime in, if you are out here buying poses, honey, you are getting played and playing yourself. Poses was one of the first things I learned to do when I got into creating cc, trust me it is one OF THE EASIEST THINGS YOU CAN LEARN FOR FREE. With a little practice you will be able to make your own poses and pose like a pro, I swear to you guys. Poses behind a paywall always gets me because ANYONE can do poses. In fact, I’mma drop you a TWO tutorials.  how to convert poses and the tutorial that helped me learn how to make poses here:

Now These are for the sims 3 but the basics in learning how to pose is there in Kaleeko’s video so I’m sure it can be applied to sims 4. Omfinger’s video is for anyone in sims 3 community who want sims 4 poses or poses they have seen behind a paid wall in sims 3..which im sure isn’t often cause buying poses is just no no here. Anyway take what you will...hopefully this helps.

Roy’s Gifting

Also, while we’re on the topic of Roy’s gifting.. I can’t remember whether I ever asked before, but he can be very generous and giving. Does that come with a price? Like.. are all his gifts of money etc always given freely or is it with the knowledge that one day he might want a return favour?

Thank you for asking, Pary! I’ve always felt that Roy’s generosity is his best quality…he doesn’t throw his money at people as a means of impressing them or because he expects anything in return, but usually as a demonstration of how much he appreciates them. For example, when he didn’t hesitate to buy Joël a ticket to Isla Paradiso so he could try and win Mia back. He has also been exceedingly generous towards Sonia regarding her divorce settlement, and of course he never hesitates to shower Crystal with money, either! That said, his generosity isn’t purely altruistic…he enjoys the buzz that being generous gives him, and his acts of generosity feed his ego and his image of himself as someone who is important and valuable. Being generous makes him feel good!
