Want to get jiggy with Hedwig? Need an excuse to wear your favorite Draco-inspired leather pants? Or maybe you’ve been waiting to show off that latex Captain America costume? Regardless of your unique costuming needs, the Lubricus Blue Ball is the place for you!

The Blue Ball is a Lubricus tradition. The double entendre is intended to inspire your costume choices: add a dash of blue to your dress robes, cast a color charm on your hair, or dress as your favorite character in a state of sexual frustration! And this year The Blue Ball will take place on Halloween so prepare for some extra spooky and extra sexy fun!

You can dance to the music or just relax and hang out with your friends. There will be appetizers, a bar (drink tickets are included with full registration), and a few more magical surprises. And if you want to invite your friends who are not attending the con, you can purchase One Night Stand guest tickets for just $25.

So start imagining, sewing, or brewing up your costume! This year’s Blue Ball will be like no other! And don’t forget that registration for Lubricus opens in just one week!

We Have Almost as Many Registration Options as Voldemort Has Horcruxes!

Registration for Lubricus 2020 opens on February 1 and we have lots of options to choose from. Here is an overview of what’s available…

Get Your Rocks Off ($140): This is a Basic Registration. Includes admission to all Lubricus programming, the arts & crafts fair, the Blue Ball, and the Morning After Breakfast.

Lend a Helping Hand ($175): This is a Sponsorship Registration No pillow princexes here - you want to help others reach their bliss by contributing an extra $35 toward our scholarship fund, so we can provide reduced-cost registrations to those who need financial assistance. Your registration includes admission to all Lubricus programming, the arts & crafts fair, the Blue Ball, and the Morning After Breakfast.

BDE (Big Donor Energy ($250): This is an Investor Registration. Like the Malfoys, you’re willing and able to provide financial support for a great cause. By purchasing this level of registration, you’re helping us keep costs down for the Basic Registration, so our con is as accessible as possible for slash lovers of all means! This registration includes admission to all Lubricus programming, the arts & crafts fair, the Blue Ball, and the Morning After Breakfast.

No Strings Attached ($25): This is a Non-Attending Registration. You won’t be attending Lubricus, but you still want to show some love! Like the Hogwarts ghosts, you’ll be with us in spirit.

One Night Stand ($25): This is a ticket for admission ONLY to the Blue Ball on October 31, 2020. Dust off your dress robes and get ready for the HOTTEST Halloween party in town. These tickets can be purchased alone at any time, or as an add-on when you purchase any of the registrations listed below. Bring your friends, enemies, rivals, crushes, partners, favorite Quidditch star, etc. There will be a cash bar at the Ball where you can purchase drink tickets.

So excited about Lubricus’s reboot! This year it’ll be in Portland OR at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. For attendees 18+ and geared toward slash pairings, though most of us are all into multi-fandoms and many differing ships now. Still, getting to hang out with fellow fans in a more low-key, intimate sort of con can be really fun compared to the bigger, overwhelming at times, sorts. 

My favorite hobby is describing socialism without using the word “socialism” and watching everyone in the room agree with me.

Guy at work: *bitches about work*

Me: “Yeah, well, that’s the way it goes. See, the company can only make money off of the work we do, so they’re never gonna pay us what we’re worth; you don’t get paid for eight hours’ work, you get paid for working eight hours. I don’t ship Drarry but with that being said, I will accept no other Drarry prompt than them stubbornly competing to outdo the other for the sheer drama.

It starts off when they’re still enemies in the Goblet of Fire. Draco makes a taunt about who Harry’s going to ask to the Yule Ball and how they must be from the worst of the worst lot and Harry rolls his eyes and says, “Well, fitting you say that, Malfoy, because I was going to ask you.” A perfect zing, Harry. 10/10.

But now the ball’s in Draco’s court and obviously he’s not going to pass up on the chance to humiliate the scarhead so he takes the most logical route of humiliation and calls out his bluff: “Fine, Potter, I reckon we’re going.”

But do you think Harry James Potter is just going to back down? That stubborn teenager is going to stare Draco down and say, “Reckon we are.”

Ron’s confused and Hermione’s confused and literally the entire castle is confused but Harry’s satisfied because he called out a bluffer’s counterbluff with a bluff of his own. And they just keep it up.

“I suppose you don’t even know how to dance, Potter?”

The furious teenager who spent years having to watch soapbox dramas with Mrs. Figg just glares at him in his stupid dress robes. “I know some things.”

“Prove it.”

“Fine.”

It’s like that for days until Draco makes the ultimate power move by inviting Harry to the Malfoy’s Annual New Years Eve Ball, taking out a Daily Prophet ad no less, because oh, oh, he’s got Potter now. He’ll never accept and he’ll be humiliated in front of the entire wizarding world. And do you think Harry’s just going to go down without a fight? God, no, he’s going to win whatever the hell this is because he’s Harry Potter, Draco better be worried, oh boy.

They’re still going at it six months later.

“Err—Malfoy?” Crabbe says. “Potter just sent you a dozen roses?”

“That son of a bitch! Send a box of chocolates. That’ll show him.”

“Um, Draco—?”

“I WILL NOT BE OUTDONE, PARKINSON!”
