Well, she had him there. His flesh hand moved again to brush through the long dark hair and he he let his shoulders lift in a slight shrug, “Well, I guess I would.” Roy had almost forgotten how observant Lian was, how she saw everything. Growing up around superheroes, with everyone she knew in a mask or costume, she had to be. “But they’ll be alright.” They had to be, they had to. After this year of sitting on their hands, things were finally happening– they were ready for it.

Little but strong arms wrapped around his thigh and he could feel small fingers gripping his uniform tight tight tight. It wasn’t hard to tell that she was scared– dammit, how was he going to explain this to her? How was he going to help her understand without traumatizing her? How do you tell a little girl that she died and came back to life?

( For the briefest of moments, he’s glad they’re in Gotham– wonders what the Red Hood has been up to lately. He died and came back, right? Maybe he could help explain and make this transition easier. )

The question caught him off guard, thinking back oh so many months ago to Donna and Dinah packing Lian’s things up. Because they couldn’t stay, couldn’t tether her spirit here. Well hell, he had no idea that she would ever come back otherwise he would have never… He swallowed hard before shooting her a small smile that didn’t quite reach his eyes, “Mr. Skootch is at Aunt Donna’s, princess. She’s been… holding onto him for safekeeping.”

If she were a little older, Lian would have rolled her eyes at his statement. Of course he would. Lian may have only been six, but she was smart. She knew when Mia, or Rosie was gone, her other aunts and uncles were gone, that it was daddy who stayed home to make sure Lian was physically okay. It just made sense. “Auntie Donna an’ Aunt Kori will fix it.” She nodded to herself, her two aunts were the best, especially when Daddy wasn’t around to lead them.

She frowned in confusion at his answer. Why did Mr. Skootch need to be with Auntie Donna? The not-real smile he gave her didn’t do anything to make her feel better, as her grip unintentionally tightened around his uniform. Brown eyes glanced around the bunker house, it was different then the various apartments they lived in before the tower and their house. Was this why Mr. Skootch was at Donna’s? Where were her drawings on the wall?

“…This is a safety home.” Lian realized out loud, tilting her head back to look at her daddy. “Un’le Niwwing talkeded ‘bout them to the other Robin.” Meaning Tim, she had known that uncle niwwing had been a robin once, and then there was one she never met, but now there was a new one–or at least there had been this morning.

“Aunt Donna!” Lian giggled in surprise, wrapping her small arms around the Amazonian’s neck in a hug, before reciprocating the kiss. “I’ve ‘issed you! Didja have to go an’ save un’le niwwing or daddy again?”

Send 🎀 to put a bow in my muses hair

Lian looked into the mirror as Joey tied her thick, raven hair back into a bow, and sent his reflection a large grin. It was their painting day today, and after the previous experience of Donna having to wash purple paint out of her hair, the amazonian had told Joey in no uncertain terms that Lian’s hair had to be pulled back from then on.

“Fank you, uncle Joey!” Lian cheerily, making sure to move her lips clearly. The young archer was beginning to learn ASL, but at the moment could only spell her name.
