Gonna be a bit confrontational over here but a lot of the people who defend new paywalls from platforms that didn't have them and make it seem like not supporting that is automatically disrespecting the work that goes into making said content just have themselves the money to pay for it.
Respect for content and their creators's need to make a profit of their work doesn't magically give people money to give them if they don't have it.
Those people who are like "paying for this is like paying for your morning coffee" make me laugh because it implies that 1) they buy like starbucks coffee every morning, which is an expense I cannot fathom and 2) they think that the US$ isn't an insane hurdle in itself for so many people in countries in which their currency is at a wild disadvantage in comparison to it.
Don't make it seem like not having the money to afford something that isn't a primary necessity and stating how unfair it's becoming that things that used to be accessible aren't anymore is the same as feeling entitled to someone's work or disrespecting it.
Maybe I'm wrong but I do believe that the indiscriminate monetization of content creation online has become so normalized and unquestioned in people's internet use that it's making people judge as morally reprehensible when someone literally cannot pay for a service.
