#369 Adventure Of late I've been spending more time out and about.   You could attribute it to PokémonGO, or perhaps just a change in mood.   Either way I'm having fun.  My mood is more stable.  My thoughts are how I've wanted them to be for so long, the way they used to be.   Intentionally wistful, sad when I choose to be sad and what to be sad about.  Likewise I'm also happier when I want to be. I can smile and hold conversations recognizing when it's genuine and not feel guilty if I'm not interested.  Spending more time on my own, and subsequently more time on myself, is really helping to bring back a more rounded mood that I am in control of.  It's a weird uncaring about things that used to make me uncomfortable that is creating a better mindset overall.

Brandywine Falls, Whistler BC - 2016.07.18

Good morning all!  I meant to say that at 7am when I got to the bottom of the falls but after 4 years of service my 5D finally gave out and simply wouldn't turn back on to transfer the files to my laptop.   Fitting that a self portrait should be the last image it captured.  I'm working on fixing it right now.

This is the first solo adventure I've been on in a while.  The plan was to hit Joffre Lakes at 3am to crest it for sunrise but due to a friend's pulled muscle I ended up doing a less timely hike, though arguably as arduous, on my own.  I've never been or researched the area and so after strugling to find a path, a few stumbles, and some paranoid searching for cougars I made it to the bottom for this shot.

As the sun peeked out and I ascended back up a boulder field I forgot the way I came and ended up doing some free hand rockclimbing to escape, though not without a few small heart attacks.  Already tired from only getting an hour's sleep in a McDonalds parking lot just after exiting a rave/after party for Pemberton Festival, the whole experience was quite exhausting, but the views were well worth it.  I really do need to go out on my own more.

4/365 - promise

There are many artists that I follow that continue to inspire me every day, helping me to push myself to be the best that I can be. Despite my own self doubt and apprehensions, I always find myself feeling encouraged when I read their stories. One of my biggest inspirations lately is my friend Lulu Lovering. If you haven’t heard of her, you should most definitely take a look at her photos as well as her writing. I met her a few years ago, and she is the sweetest soul ever. I’ll also be seeing her again this summer and hosting a photography meet-up in Vancouver! Whenever I was feeling down and lonely, I would read her words and get a little bit misty eyed, and the loneliness would dissipate. She motivates me to try harder in spite of my own fears, and it gives me so much hope. Another is my buddy Steven. He’s completed two different 365 projects in a row, the first being a self portrait project and for the other he photographed a different person every single day. Which I think is absolutely amazing, I’ve never been able to get halfway through a 365 project and he finished two! :O I’m determined to finish this one. If Steven can do it, then so can I! :D

It’s not often I’m mentioned as a source of inspiration, especially from someone who I consider to be one of my biggest inspirations.  I highly recommend you follow along with her growth through this project considering she already has such a strong place to start from!

No. 103 - Summer Visits It felt like ages despite it only being a year since I last saw Katelyn.  The visit was welcome though impromptu like most of our interactions since university.  She and Michelle had been about and while I don't remember why I was in the area we ended up at Granville Island and rolled a watermelon down a hill making it pop at the end.  It was a sunny day.  I contemplated throwing my iPod off the side of the bridge for no reason other than to do it.  I didn't, but for some reason the thought popped in my head.

No. 102 - Tegan and Sara My ex bought me tickets to see one of my favourite bands as an early birthday present a few years ago.   Unfortunately the openers were one of my least favourite bands, Tegan and Sara.  I sat down and played Pokémon on my DS until their set finished.  I remember my ex probably thinking of me as quite childish, but back then I was.

No. 101 - Pigeon Park This was my first paid band gig.  It was really exciting for me as it was one of the first few times I made money for doing what I love.  I don't know how they discovered me but I wasn't complaining.  We met up, wandered around Metrotown and the surrounding area and snapped what we could.  I was blown away by the experience, and in remembering it have no idea why.  Maybe I'll shoot them again someday.

No. 100 - The Life of a PA This is the team I worked with often to bring you all those amazing videos of me destroying cake.  Well, they made it look nice, it was me who took the nice things and ruined them. And grabbed coffee, lunch, props, adjusted lighting and a few other tasks.  The guy in front on the computer is Shawn, a mentor and talented photographer.  He was who I was a PA for and on occasion still am.   It's always a pleasure to work with that team.

No. 99 - D-Hut Anytime is a good time for D-Hut.  Or D-Plus, whatever.  Pretty sure they had to rename because of the conflict with Pizza Hut.  Honestly though, if you're ever in the Surrey area I would recommend D-Plus 10 times out of 10.  Amazing service, kind staff, nifty discounts, fabulous pizza, radical flavours, and a bunch more.

No. 95 - Draven His style was, is very transformative.  He'd wake up one day looking like a 80's baseball fan, and a couple hours later be a street goth, Bruno Mars lookalike, or in a zoot suit with a Motörhead toque.  It was fun, and I wish I had been more into fashion photography at the time.  He'd have made a great muse.  That said I wasn't fond of developing film after he'd sneak away with a camera.  Finding pictures of his balls where there should have been just about anything else wasn't pleasant.  I could have done without that part of it.
